I looked at the Ti bikes, but really can't justify spending more then $2,000 on a bike right now.
The downhillers are nice, but that Santa Cruz is nothing compaired to the ones I was drooling over at the Deer Valley national downhill competitions last year (happened to be working on the ski area the day the prelims were running).
and the single speed caught my eye for two reasons:
1) simplicity.
2) it will work my ass off and hopefully help me drop some poundage.

There are alot of people that spend their dear $$$ on a bike because of the new years resolution, only to find out that after 3 weeks of it, too busy with work, family, etc., they just loose interest.
So net net, the bike has "depreciated" with minimal to no use.
Furthermore, it could have been a gift, or someone gave them something better and more expensive.
Nonetheless, $2000 for a used bike is ALOT of bike.
