XR is easier for maintenance and bulletproof. With a pipe and the suspension adjusted properly it'll be plenty of bike for what I want to do.

heh. Not really. A CR250 is the easiest to maintain of any dirtbike out there IMO. My XR has been down for three weeks now because of some issue that I can't figure out. A CR, all you have to do is swap out a top end and your good to go.

2005 XR650R, liquid cooled. I don't need to hear the "Air cooled is more reliable" bs, I had an 83 XR500R that shit the bed too. But that was more because of age, hours, and lack of parts available anymore.

it's widely known the new xrs suck due to all the extra crap they added.

650R's? Not that I've seen, and I talk with guys that do thousands of miles a year in Baja, where this bike was purpose built for. The only failures that I know of (as in my case) are from adding aftermarket crap to the 650.

But, I don't have any experience with any of the other XR line so can't speak on them. Sure you aren't thinking about the CRF-X line? Those ones are the ones you hear of being plagued with all the problems.
