My research agrees with YZF, it's total fiction.

Even a small amount of (even secular) research will reveal the whole thing to be a hoax.

The Da Vinci Code is a loose plagerism of Holy Blood, Holy Grail which was based on the forged 'history' created by the Priory of Sion - an organization founded in the 1960s by a con man and a hotel owner looking to make a few quick bucks. When the con man went too far and started adding the bits about Magdaline, the rest (good French Catholics they were) declared it heresy and told the true story of their fabrication.

But because the deception was more interesting, people forget the full confession made decades ago and remember only the fake 'history'.
