Disturbing the Peace Tickets

Up at my apartment at school someone has been calling the cops making noise complaints like its going out of style. Our little section of 6 apartments seems to get them all the time. All my roommates and I got disturbing the police tickets for having a party even though I was in a room trying to have a party of my own. I understand that we were hosting a party that was loud so that isnt a problem. But 5 out of 6 apartments in the area have gotten tickets for things much less. These things ranging from loud music in the afternoon to a guy fighting with his GF on the phone outside. The situation with loud music was the most recent where the police knocking on the door woke a guy up from sleeping on the sofa and him and his roommate playing loud music both got tickets. The guys below me got a ticket for disturbing the police on one friday night but I was at home not feeling well and didnt hear a single thing from them.

What I'm mainly wondering about is do I have to open my door when the police coming knocking on it? I'm sure if they assume I'm forcing underage girls to get naked and drink they can come in but with just a noise complaint can I just turn the stereo down and ignore them? They are not handing out warnings and I dont want to get back from break and be worried about sneezing too loud and getting in trouble.

Well I'm going to pay my ticket. My neighbor who was asleep is going to go complain. I'm just wondering at what point do I have to open the door if at all

You don't have to open the door for them. They aren't going to break out a battering ram. If you do decide to open the door, crack it and stand in the way so they can't come in. Never let them come into your house or search your car even if you have nothing, its your right. You might think it would cause you more trouble to say no, but it will usually take less time because unless they have a really good reason, they won't mess with a warrant.
