Hesitation problem
I have a problem. Under WOT at around 4000rpm's my car falls on its face. I have changed the TFI module on the distributor, and the mass air meter and no help. I think it might be something inside of the distributor or the TPS sensor. Any other ideas?

My '96 used to misfire sometimes and I couldnt figure out why. It turned out to be the underdrive pulley on the crank throwing off the timing.

RX7s are BAD about doing that with a bad or misadjusted TPS.

The timing is set at 15 deg. When the car is first started, it will idle perfect, then after the car warms up it will start misfiring and surging very bad. I also replaced the distributor yesterday.

I have narrowed it down to o2 sensors. Should have some by the middle of next week.

its probably not the o2 sensor. Thats only used for closed loop operation. Everything but cruising at a consistent throttle position is open loop. Surging is usually the ECU being confused about engine speed and position, throttle position or its just running really lean. Lean condition would be caused by a vacuum leak on a N/A car. If you dont have an AF gauge I suggest you buy one (preferably from me I have one in stock). Good luck.

I had a vacuum leak on the intake, but I replaced the intake gasket on Monday. Now it idles fine, but when driving it hesitates, except on WOT. I talked to a guy that had the same problems, replaced his o2 sensors and the problem went away.

the one I have right now is made by westach. Theyve made FAA certified gauge for a looong time. They hold the patent for the first electric tachometer. its a white face. The neat thing about this one is that its an analog one instead of the kind with the flashy, annoying lights. Im pretty sure it cost me around $60... I intended just to use it on my car but my car came with one that matched my autometer cluster. Its brand new in the box.
