Scientists have detected large quantities of cocaine flowing in Italian sewage and river water - suggesting many more people use the drug than was first thought.
Researches say about 4 kilograms of cocaine - the equivalent of 40,000 doses - is carried along Italy's largest river, the Po, each day.
In Australia, that much cocaine would be worth about $800,000 on the street, according to Australian Institute of Criminology figures.
