I'd be happy with a reliable car that got good MPG.

Or you know, my wrist healing so I can ride my motorcycle again.

it's sold - no surprise.

The other day my NSX buddy came across an Atomic Orange one that has 25k miles. Has extended warranty for $40k.

I surf craigslist in SF Bay Area.

Even found a yellow 2nd gen Viper for sub $40k for sale.

As long as you still have a good paying full time job, the C6 Z06 is a pretty dam good bang for the buck.

I don't like the look of the 996. I like the 993 and 997 looks the best.

Have you priced out what it takes to get 600Hp outta these cars reliably?

I called up Lingerfelter the other day and they are working on a 1500wrhp C6 Z06 with turbos. they already have a twin supercharged one making 1300rwhp

No, but word is the 996/997 Turbo drivetrain is very stout, without the RMS issues that seem to plague many n/a 911s, and even Boxsters and Caymans.

I was watching "Supercars Exposed" awhile ago (granted, it's a cheesy show), but they set up a mini track with a long straight and a few hairpins at a military base for their annual shootout. I was shocked at how miserably the high hp (as in, about 1000 hp) Vipers, Vettes, and GTs did, because they simply could not keep it together in the tighter sections of the track, and were smoking the tires even at 100+ mph on the straight (guy in the Viper spun out BIG TIME). Even the Gallardo got smoked. What humiliated the field? A high modded 996 Turbo pushing about 900 hp (although that figure was not dyno verified). A 997 Turbo with about 600 hp was right behind it. They clearly showed how these AWD cars dominate on tight "street" type tracks. I'm sure it would have been a different story at an open track like Willow Springs.

Well, the faster land animal in the world is AWD - Cheetah.

Make sure you do your research on 911s total cost of ownership (TCO) in modded format for a street car.

Also, are there enough trustable and adroit 911 mechanics in your 'hood?

keep in mind that it's german engineering and it's german engineering. In other words, the germans do make some impressive shit, but some of their engineering makes you wonder if they had multiple committees working on the car, like the styling lines on the RX8, for example.

i don't see myself going beyond 800rwhp with slicks on a RWD street car anytime soon, or even in my lifetime.

With my GTO I'm already at the level that most of what I see or race can be pulled on. Of course the majority of what can be beaten are stock cars. The point being is that I doubt that I will really need more than 600rwhp or even 700rwhp to conquer the roads around here.

HP for HP I havne't found a single engine format that is superior to the LSx with regards to delivering power and MPGs (when you are cruising).

Tofuball has a spectacular aura about
engine format? the honda del-sol was one of the first off that ratio I think :P

HP to HP? Probably turbine, steam, sterling, etc all usually better then the otto cycle, except in price and acceleration, or size
