I have decided not to go with the 06 Mustang and have decided to get either a 03 Dark Shadow Gray Mach 1 with 14k miles or a Silver 01 Cobra with 42k miles. Which one should I get? Either way I am cool with the choice. :dunno:

I would get the 03 Mach 1....Isnt the HP rating around the same? I wouldnt get a Cobra unless it was a 96-98 or since you are wanting newer body, 03-04...

^Wrong...hood scoop on the Mach 1 is the only functional hood scoop on the last model mustangs. You may also want to look at suspension and what you want it for. I believe all cobras of that model have independent rear suspension (good for handling, bad for drag) while Non-Cobras had a solid rear suspension (opposite).

03 mach1 or 03-04 cobra if you really want to go the cobra route.

03-04 Cobra. Has the good longblock and transmission. Only thing holding it back HP

wise is that piece of trash supercharger it comes with. You can get a vert or hardtop

for $20,000 if you check out EBay for a few weeks.

every 99-01 Cobra comes with the crappy IRS suspension and also the garbage T45

trans. then you don't even come with a power adder and they usually want $15k for

a 99-01 Cobra.... $20k for a Mach 1.

390hp/390tq stock.
that one sold for 23,900 because its the 10th anniversary edition. 3,665lbs. the mach 1 is 3,465lbs (probably supercharger, 03 IRS, and T56 transmission making the Cobra heavier).

the GT is around 3250. the Mach 1 / Cobra is 3450. the 03 is 3650.

The mach 1 is a stock gt block with 4v heads.

You can swap the irs for a live setup and come out ahead.

Its the Cobra engine unless you get an autotragic then you don't get the forged Cobra crank... so the autos might as well be a GT block... manuals are true Cobra engines.

I didn't think they had different powerplants for autos and 5-speeds, but I haven't been keeping up with mustangs since 2002.

The engine makes use of specially calibrated cams, a modified upper intake to accommodate the ram-air system, a heated PCV, a forged crank (cast crank in automatic transmission application) and performance exhaust manifolds combining to produce an expected output in excess of 300 horsepower. The 2003 Mach 1 will be available with a choice of a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission with electronic overdrive.

that link doesn't prove its a cobra lower end. I'm 99.99% sure a mach 1 has an iron block.

The '03/'04 Mach 1's come with either an iron or alum block depending on build date.
They have a different (but interchangeable) block than the '99/'01 Cobras did, even though they are both aluminum.

The '03/'04 Cobras & '99 - '04 GT's all have iron blocks.

The '99/'01 Cobras have different rods than the GT's & Mach 1's (though they are the same material), and the '03/'04 Mach have the GT rods with different pistons (but again with the same hyper-u-craptic construction).

The Mach 1 has the same heads as the '03 Cobra.

the cobra is a better version of the mach with additional stuff like say a supercharger! the 03-04 versions are sick with a few bolt ons. My ex-roomate has an 03 with an updated ecu and a different SC/pulley and exhaust making 600+ WHP on the dyno and running 12 flat-12.1ish quarters consistently. Soon he will go twin turbo and make around 850 WHP with an expected sub 10 sec quarter. street car!! everyday driver!!

at 400whp you can run 12.0s consistently which is basically a full exhaust and cold air intake no pulley on street tires. stock they dyno at +/-361whp.
