Sean951 01-22-2005, 02:08 PM i was going to post this under the "new engine" thread, but i thought it was getting a bit off topic. this ultima has 1000hp, which equates to 1020hp per tonne, which is about the closest thing ive seen to a formula 1 car that can be driven on the street. now for those of you who dont know what ultimas are, they are a british kit car that mainly uses chevy V8s for power, they look about like a lemans racecar. with 1000hp you would think this one would be packing a highly modified v8, but its not. its powered by 2 hayabusa motorcycle engines and both of them are fitted with turbos making 500hp a piece. it doesnt stop there, this ultima also has AWD. heres the link (http://www.zcars.org.uk/ultima/ultima.htm) . take some time to browse around the site if your into crazy machines, they also have bike powered mini's and lotus elise's :) Cosby 01-22-2005, 05:30 PM Man, that is AWESOME. I really want my next car to be something I build from the frame up. According to some of the ultimate rally people, there is a guy in spain that drives an 800hp ultima every day. I imagine it gets a little cramped. Probably isn't much of a cross country vehicle. None the less, a lot of people are planning on using it in the gumball and UR. It probably isn't a bad choice. Sean951 01-22-2005, 07:05 PM The ultima would probly be the perfect car for the gumball run. high top speeds, can be fitted with a/c, really you can have those cars anyway you like. they are home built, you can go with a bare polished aluminum interior or with alligator hide. anything you want......by the way chris i might skip the lotus 7 style car and try building a hayabusa powered mini....that site has really turned me on to them. Cosby 01-22-2005, 08:17 PM I'd definitely rather have the lotus. It might be more common but it is by no means an "everyday car". Sean951 01-22-2005, 09:46 PM very true on both parts, there is someone building a caterham replica right now that i know. im going to take lots of pictures and measurments of his frame. i want to use a hayabusa but i would have to buy a dry sump for it....either way i think its worth it. i was even looking at supercharger kits for them, 300hp at 11,000rpm. everybody turbos busas, a supercharger would be something cool. with that amount of power i would def. need limited slip and probly traction control. a company called racelogic makes a nice unit. its all starting to come together in my head, i just need to write it down on paper and see how much its going to cost. by the way Chris, when your done with your ultima and im done with my lotus, we can both drive down the road and watch everybody have a WTF look on their face. Cosby 01-23-2005, 01:18 AM We can start an "I made it myself" club :) Sean951 01-23-2005, 09:46 AM oh yeah, it would be a bit harder to get into that club:) SpartanTS 01-24-2005, 08:11 AM That car is pretty nice. That would be an only car of its kind on the gumball. I really want to participate in a gumball rally one day, maybe in a Porche or somethin, something that i'll be able to afford :) |
