Ark2 11-23-2007, 07:32 PM Does anyone know why it was written? Every online journal that I find on the subject seems to require special permission to view it. Also, any insight into what the social climate was like at the time for the Jews of Egypt? mass extinction 11-26-2007, 12:01 PM Most of the apocryphal books concern the Wisdom of Solomon, intertestament period of Jewish history, or simply Jewish fables. Ark2 11-27-2007, 12:21 AM Well, I had to write a paper on the subject but I think I figured it out on my own. bx7 11-27-2007, 05:20 AM Ark2, What's your take on it? When are you going to join us in refutation of the RCC? Tell me where you live and I'll help you find a good church that teaches the Bible as the word of God with correct Reform theology that does not believe in the replacement of Israel. Ark2 11-27-2007, 03:37 PM Thanks, I'll let you know when I'm ready. As for 2 Maccabees, I think that it's a fictional account of the Maccabean Revolt that the author constructed to raise Jewish Morale in Egypt. The author really seems to dip his hands into history here, particularily with his focus on the martyrdom of Eleazar and the seven brothers. What's interesting is that if you compare 2 Maccabees to 4 Maccabees, the inconsistencies are overwhelming. I think that whole thing was just a literary tool that was used to further various causes. |
