Cosby 10-21-2005, 10:36 AM There are 4 people online out of 810 members. I'm working on some other code for the site but would anyone care to write or give suggestions for a newsletter of sorts to invite everyone back. I think the following points are important: new domain name increased bandwidth increased storage new forum categories (and accepting suggestions) less assholery but still a focus on anything goes not sure what else. Just list anything else you think people want to see. SpartanTS 10-21-2005, 11:01 AM E-mail access yournamehere@theforumlounge.com I would implement this as an incentive for "donating members". I'd be a nice incentive and it'll retain membership. Just a thought :D Also, what "exactly" is our focus here at the forum lounge? With the "assholery" down to a minimum, what are we here for besides general conversation? I know we have an abundance of people with rotary cars, but is really our main focus? If yes, then "STB" shouldn't be the first forum on the page IMO. All automotive forums that I am apart of have their Off Topic/STB forum towards the bottom. Not that STB isn't high priority, but if our main focus is to bring in more members, then STB isn't a good way to do it. I'd be great if we could have 50-100+ users online consistantly, but we have to focus on something besides general talk to do it. Also, i'd be nice if we had some group buys here. If I can think of anything else, i'll post it. Cosby 10-21-2005, 11:18 AM We can do it without a focus on one topic. our focus is on the area that is left out on every other forum. The only reason I ever really went to rx7club was for the lounge and on every major forum the most frequented section is always the off topic section. off-topic.com went after this and theyve grown so large now theyve had to cut off membership. With properly chosen areas of interest we can increase search engine results/ranks and retained members. I've already added some of the more commonly searched for forums and I am going to work on changing up the keywords/descriptions and then populate the meta info with it. If you notice the titles and URLs I've got some relatively advanced SEO techniques developed and it is only a matter of time. The main thing to make us grow is to go to these forums we're interested in and start posting links. The more links, the faster we'll grow for a number of reasons. Trust me, we just need to draw from our memberbase to get enough people on here posting that the newbies will stay because it is interesting. It is kind of just a temporary fix until promotion kicks in. Cosby 10-21-2005, 11:22 AM I'm going to be developing a framework for this site also once I finish my promotional tools and it will include the email address. Perhaps not pop3 but it should be able to be done. At a minimum I'd like to add email address, blog/interest page(aka garage)/gallery but I have to get some of this other stuff done. We also need a forum upgrade to the newest version of vB. That will help b/c I'll be able to access hacks and what not since my subscription has since expired. Up until now I've done everything from scratch. SpartanTS 10-21-2005, 11:24 AM With that being said, that "Off Topic" is our focus, helps me look a things from a different perspective. I'm sure it can work, and I hope that it will. The name change does help, as it defines the site as a louge, while illstreet gives the impression that it's a car forum. Now if the Mods had POP3 access, that'd be good. Otherwise, members should have web based access to e-mail. SpartanTS 10-21-2005, 11:29 AM Also, how about an Investment/Business forum? Not sure if it'd fit in, but just a thought. $100T2 10-21-2005, 12:04 PM I think you need to add the smack-talk section. The assholery can run rampant there. No edit button, no moderation (unless somebody is putting up some incredibly inappropriate stuff like people eating dead babies or something...), no report button. SpartanTS 10-21-2005, 12:20 PM I think you need to add the smack-talk section. The assholery can run rampant there. No edit button, no moderation (unless somebody is putting up some incredibly inappropriate stuff like people eating dead babies or something...), no report button. I'm not in agreement with the smack talk section, until we get a strong membership base. Maybe i'm not looking at this the way some of you guys are, but I don't see how a smacktalk section would help bring in members as of right now, because some of the existing members will attempt to "OWN" them and run them away. meddle 10-21-2005, 12:25 PM Worthwhile tech info would obviously get people on here. But only like 6 members on this forum even know which way their motor spins. If someone had a really neat buildup that was in detail i.e. jimlabs old turd, that may drag members on here. ComradeGiant 10-21-2005, 12:39 PM A proper writeup of jimlabs car would bring a lot of people for sure. Ever try to read his thread on the 7 Club? Theres twenty pages of gibberish for each page of nifty information. meddle 10-21-2005, 01:06 PM How about the illstreet shop sends me a tial 46 wg and I'll keep the switch from the vortech to turbo wel documented on here. :yumyum: meddle 10-21-2005, 01:14 PM jeeze. After browsing the site, I realised oyu guys don't even sell performance shit. ComradeGiant 10-21-2005, 01:18 PM Why would they? All the money is in useless shit. Cosby 10-21-2005, 01:19 PM Used to ... 1) Didn't make money 2) Did it through Gotham Racing and they have terrible customer service ComradeGiant 10-21-2005, 01:20 PM Haha! Beat him to it! If you look at the bank accounts of Apex, and the bank account of whatever company first started making Altezza knockoff lights, you will see that Apex makes way less money. SpartanTS 10-21-2005, 01:23 PM ^ Ditto. It takes a lot less cash to manufacture Altezzas vs performance parts. I don't even care to share how much profit margin is in "Altezza" sales. It's big business, that's for sure. 2ndGen.Rocket 10-21-2005, 02:48 PM I think someone should make up an extremely funny story on here, and then we can post a link to it on all of the other forums. Something along the lines of dating a girl for 3 weeks and finding out she was a tranny after only letting you fuck her in the ass or something.
