My 240 is an automatic and i really want a stick. My parents bought it so i was not gonna complain but i have always wanted to convert it. Anyone know how much i could convert it to a 5 speed manual for and has anyone done this. Thanks

hmm...should be fun fun. You'll need the transmission of course, flywheel, all the linkage, clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder, something's probably connected into the computer that you'd have to disconnect I don't really know. I probably missed something and am probably wrong somewhere...I"m sure allen would give you better insight.

you will need a tranny, flywheel, all tranny cables, wiring harness (that's gonna be a bitch to install), new ecu (unless your's is a piggy-back tranny computer), linkages, and depending on the car...some other stuff...shouldnt' be that incredibly hard...but do it yourself, or you will have to pay out the ass. Trust me..i'm going to do it this summer, and i've already checked into it...w/ a new tranny and flywheel, they wanted about $5k to do it w/ installation

hmm thats about half right..

On the 240, all the guages are mechanical.

You would need :

Flywheel $100 (used)
clutch $300 New Center Force
transmission $500 - $800 ( used - guestimate )
manual drive shaft $50-$100 (used)
pedel assembly for a 5 speed $50 - 100 (used)
all clutch compnents $50 (used)
center shift console $25 (used)

** all prices are educated guesses.

new ECU, and wireing harness aren't needed since every thing is mechanical.

Only problem you might havem whice really isnt a problem, is the reverse back up light. The auto isnt wired for the plug on the trans. Not a big deal really.

the auto and the and manual are both bult on the same basic chassis, the auto jsut dosnt use various mounting places like the clutch master cylinder and what not.

The swap it self would be time comsumeing, giving the fact that the steering rack has to be removed to gain access to the peddle assembly, however with pleanty of patience, its possible to be done in a week end.
