Agreed. The thing their is the language barrier, and cultural differences. Asian and Indians conduct business in a very different way that American culture. You can't really compare it to the philosophies of a large organization, but just look how asians/indians conduct business in their little dry cleaners, C-marts, shops etc. They are very aggressive and confrontational.

Even I've seen what Batty speaks of, though asian parents and adults tend to have this wierd thing about contradicting themselves in their messages often....

IE: Pushing their kids to study hard and get the best grades, play "X" instruments, and overall exceed academically... However, it's usually at the cost of their social skills....

All too often, I see the genius type asian kid who's "beaten into a straight line" to meet their parent's wishes, yet can't ever go out, have friends, or have a life of their own till after High School (sometimes not even then, since they live at home to help out with the family, clean the house, take care of grandma, etc.).....

Ever wonder why "asian communities" are alway so closely knit, or why you always see a bunch of asian kids rolling hard in numbers at the mall with hardly any diversity to be found? (And I don't just mean black/white/hispanic... I'm talking about Korean/Japanese/Chinese/Flip as well)....

Then comes the "usual stereotypes" they get in the media:

Asian Men: Mysterious, sneaky, indecipherable, and "exotic." The kung-fu man. The Chinese restaurant waiter or delivery boy. (It doesn't matter if the actor is Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or of another Asian ethnicity. They're all the same right?) The nerd and math whiz. Above all else, he must nearly always be a foreigner with a heavy accent, i.e. not-American (if the actor is native-born American or otherwise speaks fluent English, he's told to act like he doesn't.) You always wonder why you never really see asians at bars and stuff like that. You'd assume it was because they can't hold their liquor and turn bright red when drinking, but the other part is the fact that most are socialy inept as hell.

And about the helping with the restaurant or massage parlor stuff, I've always found that funny too. Many of those self-owned business asians just love getting by on tax evasion, just like black people in barber shops...they always want cash. I'd say they're pretty much the same (with the exception of Chinese kids always driving new accords), but I'd love to see the W2 of a few these asians who are so-called "well off". I'll bet most claim under 30k w/ kids, yet have the material assets which suggest otherwise.

I think you'd be suprised how little those little places make. How much many can a dry cleaniners really bring in? They have a lot of really expensive equiment they are paying on. Lets say they get 500 shirts a day, which would be a lot. Thats only $500-$1000 in income depending on what they charge. Now figure what they are paying for their building? What are they paying for their plant if it is off-site? The chemicals they use are very expensive. Disposal of those chemicals is very expensive. They have insane power bills. They have to pay to maintain all those machines and boilers.

A guy who lived by me at my old apartment owned franchised 7-11s. He was responsible for running the entire place and basically received a pay check from 7-11 every two weeks. He brought in about 35k a year per store-not a lot of money. He had two stores. You'd have to own multiple stores to make a decent income.

So why do most asians migrate to America looking for dollars? I see a lot of them chase after the white man too...or at least his pockets.

So which do asians hold to a higher esteem? The chase of material success, or pride? As far as principle goes, I just don't see the difference between them and black people... Well I don't visit chinese restaurants. They all seem dirty. Plus the only hting I like is fried rice. My minority business experiences are limited to dry cleaners and gas stations.

Asians are one of the most traveled people and more often than not, where they live is often saturated with too many people.

They do see the west as a culture of innovation amongst many traits, much like we see asia as a place where they can make quality goods cheaper and better than other countries.

heck China fabricate goods cheaper than what India is paying for in raw materials.

Sure the first couple years might be a joke riddled with recalls, but just look at Hyundai and the time they got their quality up where they are at eye contact with Toyota and Honda. Look how long Toyota and honda took to get to their level.

Industry wisdom says the Chinese automotive learning curve is far accelerated compared to the Korean industry, which was 3-4 times faster than the Japanese (look how Hyundai went from the Pony to tops for quality control in just 2 decaded - and realise that'll happen in about 2 years for CHina, with new, feature-laden cars retailing for about $6,990 here)
