bx7 05-19-2006, 06:00 AM For those of you who are neither Atheists or Christians, I pose this question: Where will you spend the eternity and what do you use to base this claim? fcdrifter13 05-19-2006, 06:07 AM WTF are you thinking KatakanaKarl 05-19-2006, 06:35 AM When I die, my memories will be transmitted to the galactic database, 700,000 lightyears away on the planet Vr'laal. Cosby 05-19-2006, 11:16 AM You're a scientologist? JPAccord 05-19-2006, 11:51 AM Thank god yzf is banned. (oh the irony) bx7 05-19-2006, 12:00 PM Thank god yzf is banned. (oh the irony) He wouldn't qualify to answer since he claims to be a Christian. I was looking for others to answer and provide the basis for their beliefs. KatakanaKarl 05-19-2006, 12:33 PM You're a scientologist? No, scientologists reincarnate. I'm a member of a very fine religion that I myself created. We are the Fellowship of the Galactic Conscienceness. Peace be upon you, human. vrooom305 05-19-2006, 12:57 PM For those of you who are neither Atheists or Christians, I pose this question: Where will you spend the eternity and what do you use to base this claim? I believe that I will become one with the 'FORCE'. what's the basis for this you ask? Six Star Wars moves.... Say No To Pistons 05-19-2006, 03:05 PM im going to be a sex machine in the afterlife... fuck yeah 2ndGen.Rocket 05-19-2006, 03:07 PM I don't think there necessarily is an eternity, nor would one apply to a person after they die. No one on this earth has a clue how to answer this question without grasping their own faith, so I don't think it's too far fetched to say that nothing happens. You die, and thats it, lights out. 2ndGen.Rocket 05-20-2006, 05:37 PM I don't think it has anything to do with feeling immortal. I'm well aware of the fact that I could kick the bucket at any second during any day. I will admit that the thought of dying is quite frightening to me, however I've accepted that it is an inevitable fact of life and it will happen at some point. I don't think the older and wiser have a better grasp on the concept than I do. As a matter of fact, I don't think it's outlandish to assert that as people get older they become more aware and possibly more afraid of the fact that death is increasingly closer. Thus they look for an outlet that allows them to abandon that fear by turning to religion which portrays death as the gateway to an eternal divine existence. falnfenix 05-20-2006, 07:12 PM well, you see, when a person dies their body usually ends up embalmed and stuck in the ground, or incinerated and stuffed in an urn. beyond that, i can't fathom there being something like an afterlife. i feel that's a human-created existence merely to make us feel better about death. $100T2 05-21-2006, 10:24 PM For those of you who are neither Atheists or Christians, I pose this question: Where will you spend the eternity and what do you use to base this claim? In otherwords, those of you who are Pagan, Hindu, etc? LOL Anyway, to answer your question as honestly as possible: I don't truly know if there is an afterlife or not. Sure, I'd like to think there is, but I'm not going to worry about it. Not to bash him, but if you look at Mark, all he talks about is Heaven, the end times, etc... Why pass up the life you have now for something you hope will be? I know I'm alive now. I am not going to waste what I have now dwelling on what may or may not be. So worried about the destination that you miss the beauty of the trip? No thanks. Sure, some people have faith, which is NOT knowledge, that there is an afterlife, call it what you will... But I'll sweat it when I get there. I live my life the way I live my life because it's the right way for me to do it, right now... I'm not doing it because I'm chasing a brass ring, or so that I get the ticket to go on all the good rides when I die. $100T2 05-21-2006, 10:26 PM im going to be a sex machine in the afterlife... fuck yeah 'Cause we sure as shit know you won't be one in this life. :D AmishBoy 05-22-2006, 09:23 AM I think sometimes that the after life will be what we think it will be. Sort of like a dream, made up of your own assumptions. That would suck if you thought you were going to hell. Because you would. bx7 05-22-2006, 10:51 AM If there is a creator, is it logical to assume there is an afterlife? falnfenix 05-22-2006, 03:56 PM i wouldn't say that religion and logic generally go together. Tofuball 05-22-2006, 05:29 PM You wouldnt, I would :) $100T2 05-22-2006, 10:26 PM If there is a creator, is it logical to assume there is an afterlife? Absolutely not. If there is a creator, who is powerful enough to create everything we know, and everything we don't know, then we really have no place assuming anything about said creator, do we? You can't apply human rational thought to something that is able to create us (or destroy us) on a whim. The creator you envision would have to be so far superior to us in every single possible way that to assume anything is more of a slap in the face. bx7 05-23-2006, 07:06 AM Absolutely not. Let's assume there is a creator. He has given us a brain capable of asking questions. It is completely appropriate for us to question him. It's a tool in the toolbox. I believe you have mentioned in other posts, that you make furniture or do wood working. When you make a drawer you put a knob on it, right? (or some other device to open it) If the creator gave us the ability to consider and question even the creator himself, then it is intention of the design to perform this function. Getting back to the original point, if the creator gave us the concept of eternity, or infinity for you math types, it is logical to assume there is an afterlife. If there is an eternal life to come then some questions come up. What can be known of the afterlife? What is the point of this life? What happens in the afterlife? Grand Wizard Hornsby 05-24-2006, 04:51 PM lets assume that we're not in fact the greatest thing in the universe, and lets imagine that there are more powerful forces than "us" and say we accept the limitations of our senses.. now what? do we still try and prove/disprove anything beyond us? or would that be a COMPLETE FCKING WASTE OF TIME SPENT IN VAIN??? go fucking figure bx7 05-25-2006, 05:13 AM lets assume that we're not in fact the greatest thing in the universe, and lets imagine that there are more powerful forces than "us" and say we accept the limitations of our senses.. God aside, to the best of our knowledge we are the greatest thing in the universe. Consider the significance of the lifelessness of all the planets and moons so far studied in our solar system. Does this mean anything? Consider the physical properties in the universe which allow life to be sustained. The odds are incredible. now what? do we still try and prove/disprove anything beyond us? or would that be a COMPLETE FCKING WASTE OF TIME SPENT IN VAIN??? go fucking figure It's not a waste of time. mazdaspeedrex 05-26-2006, 04:08 PM Isaiah 45 (one of the dead sea scrolls perfectly preserved for thousands of years) I wouldn't call the dead sea scrolls perfectly preserved. http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/scrolls/scr3.html I also don't see Isaiah in this bunch of scrolls. mazdaspeedrex 05-26-2006, 04:42 PM So there was some mention of Isaiah in wikipedia, but I still didn't see the perfectly preserved part. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/c/c5/Deadseascrolls.JPG/200px-Deadseascrolls.JPG http://www.centuryone.com/images/torah.gif mazdaspeedrex 05-26-2006, 04:45 PM Here's another good wiki read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afterlife#Afterlife_as_a_belief Tofuball 05-27-2006, 01:15 AM I also don't see Isaiah in this bunch of scrolls. I saw the Dead Sea Scrolls of Isaiah in person, rolled out around a gigantic room. HUGE. So yeh, they exist :p $100T2 05-27-2006, 11:25 AM exactly....which is why if God Himself does not reveal it, it cannot be known thankfully, He has Isaiah 45 (one of the dead sea scrolls perfectly preserved for thousands of years) For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “ I am the LORD, and there is no other. I have not spoken in secret, In a dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob, ‘ Seek Me in vain’; I, the LORD, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. “ Assemble yourselves and come; Draw near together, You who have escaped from the nations. They have no knowledge, Who carry the wood of their carved image, And pray to a god that cannot save. Tell and bring forth your case; Yes, let them take counsel together. Who has declared this from ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I, the LORD? And there is no other God besides Me, A just God and a Savior; There is none besides Me. can I get an amen? LOVE that passage OK, but since this thread isn't about the whole Christian mindset, let's try not to start thumping the Bible. Again, we don't know how we got here, and we don't know what happens afterwards. It's ALL speculation. Sure, some people bank on the Bible being right, but Christianity is just another in an EXTREMELY long line of religions, could be right, could be wrong. Everything is a theory in regards to the origin of the planet, animals, humans, etc. Everything is a theory in regards to the afterlife, whether it's heaven, reincarnation, whatever. I guess the only way to know for sure is to find out when you get there. Grand Wizard Hornsby 05-27-2006, 04:45 PM i work hard and i buy chronic to smoke. it's a fair deal and i tell everyone who criticises to go check the bible. $100T2 05-27-2006, 10:11 PM but it's the first in that extremely long line Um, no it's not. Jesus was a Jew. Hence, Judaism was along WAY before Christianity ever was. c'mon kev-dog....we love ya...we want to see you in heaven, take a chance on Jesus :) Been there, done that, it just didn't ring true to me. Sorry, Marky. I want to go to Labrador Retreiver heaven. :D Tofuball 05-28-2006, 07:41 PM Um, no it's not. Jesus was a Jew. Hence, Judaism was along WAY before Christianity ever was. Same religion. If the jews bothered to read their own texts, how could they deny Jesus? I have yet to meet one who put up even a decent argument. My favorite one was "I can't read those passages in Isaiah, or God will strike me dead" Ark2 05-28-2006, 08:56 PM Same religion. If the jews bothered to read their own texts, how could they deny Jesus? I have yet to meet one who put up even a decent argument. My favorite one was "I can't read those passages in Isaiah, or God will strike me dead" Don't they believe that Jesus didn't rise from the dead and that His body was stolen by the disciples? I'm not saying that that is what I believe but that would explain why they deny Jesus wouldn't it? |
