This is what they are doing to the 2001 Mustang GT
intalling clutch w/ flywheel resurfacing
installing new oem lower intake manifold (mine has a crack)
installing BBK plenum
intalling BBK throttle body

I am supplying all of the parts except for the lower intake manifold which sell at the dealer for more than $150.00 last time I checked.
This will all be done in one day and they're charging my wife $490.00 total.
I called a performance shop and they quoted me $370.00 for just the clutch.

I would do it myself with my friend's tools, but I don't have the time.

The wifey got the x-pipe installed on the mustang for $20.00. So I think she will do well with this project.

It sure as hell sounds like it.

The shop I work for charges right around $450 for a clutch job by itself.

Holy crap. I guess Paula does know what she's doing.

I do most of the work on my cars so I get surprised at what others charge when I don't.

So have I, when I started working there I was really surprised at the prices people were charged, not that they're really all that outrageous considering the work that's being done but it sure made me glad that I can work on my own for the most part.

I was stunned at the prices they charge for doing brakes. I have probably saved thousands of dollars from doing those myself over the years.

Yeah, good money has been made off of jobs such as those. We've had quite a few people who were performing maintenance on their cars stop somewhere through the job, tow their car to our parking lot and leave their key and a note telling us where the parts were in our drop box so we could finish the job for them.

i'd be ripping them a new asshole. u take it apart and then want me to figure out where things go and put it back together? yeah right. it would cost more to do that then it would if u'd brought to me to begin with.

LOL, exactly, the people who do this aren't normally our regulars and they're usually not very happy with the price they have to pay when they come in to pick up their vehicle.

do you work at a shop full time?

Not anymore, I did work full time there for about eight months but my schooling would cut into my work hours if I still did. I need money, but, I consider my education to be of utmost importance considering the fact that I DON'T want to be working ten hour days at an auto shop for the rest of my life.

Not a bad price. Id probably have to pay $200 plus parts to have a friend at the dealership do it. Should take 3-6 hours. The intake isnt bad just a lot of wires / hoses to hook back up.

the only good thing about having work done at a shop compared to you is that if its bad you can complain.
