Ammunition Accountability Act
Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his minions and allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including TN, Illinois and Indiana ) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture, a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including handloaded ammo.) They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more! If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!

Please give this the widest distribution possible and contact your Reps!

It's the ammo, not the guns....
I've said for a long time that they wouldn't go for your guns, they'd go for your ammo... guns have a Constitutional protection. Ammo does not. A list of states where this legislation is pending is in the final paragraph. Not in CO yet, they'll go where the pansies are first.

Heads up to all of you who swore to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND domestic. Let your state Legislatures know that we do not want this bill passed, and petition them to vote no on this bill. We should keep after them until the bill is closed by bombarding them with e-mails, phone calls, and letters.

Get to all your politicians to get to work and NOT LET THIS HAPPEN!!! The 2009 Legislative session has begun, and the Ammunition Accountability Act is being introduced across the country. Below is a list of states where legislation has already been introduced:

Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.
Please guys contact your congressmen and Reps!

i do not agree with the provision requiring people to destroy their ammunition stores.

i do not have a problem with encoded ammunition, as long as ammunition remains widely available.

I have a problem with the whole thing.

It's not only unnecessary, but it will be ineffective and only serve to raise the price of ammo.

Less ammo is less practice and less people taking newbs to the range.

Exactly my thoughts.

What about reloaders? I've been saving all of my M1 ammo because teh surplus supply will dry up eventually, and not only are commercial .30-06 loads too expensive (a buck a piece more or less), but they are powdered completley wrong for an M1 and will ruin it.

edit: and what aobut when that 5 cent-per-round tax become a $1.00-per-round tax? We already pay sales tax on the ammunition, why the fuck should we have to pay yet ANOTHER tax? And on top of that, the price from the manufacturer will go through the roof (moreso than it already has) because they'll have to retool to comply. Some ammo companies will simply shut not sell in certain states, and if it becomes a federal thing, probably shut down.

I dont understand why all of a sudden this is making news....look at some of the states in your second link and you will see that this was not only introduced last year, but in several places it was introduced in 2007 as well. This is not new. In fact, the information is so old now that at least some of these have already been stopped and are not even up for vote anymore, so they cannot become law. For example, Arizona's attempt, HB 2833, was stopped dead in the water last year. look on page 2:

http://www.azcdl.org/AzCDL0408aBW.pdf

I also checked CA, CT, and AL....in CA and AL, the bills seem to have been wiped out. In CT, the lawmakers have refused to even vote on the bill in the senate throughout all of last year. more checking would be needed, but this seems to be more a case of old info thats designed to scare people rather than inform them.

let's not get all paranoid in the attempt to protect our freedoms, folks. I am all for the right to bear arms, but things like this only waste our time because we try to fight things that have already been killed off.

ITs making news because now it will be easier for these things to pass - federally.

i would say that sounds pretty bad.

but really, i have no idea about the price and logistics of manufacturing and retailing ammunition.

i was only looking at it from a 2nd amendment point of view.

i agree any measure they introduce should be restricted from imposing terms or taxes so egregious as to place a crazy insane burden on the purchase of ammunition.

right....its easier for them to pass now...."federally"...that explains why there is a list of all the STATES that are supposedly passing this into law, and links to the bills in question???

This is not a "federal" law issue, steel...as evidenced by such things in this article as:

The bill that is being pushed in 18 states

A list of states where this legislation is pending is in the final paragraph.

Let your state Legislatures know that we do not want this bill passed

Below is a list of states where legislation has already been introduced

Now....think this over a minute....this exact same thing has been sent around the internet for going on three years now. first, it was just like this, but said "The 2007 Legislation session has begun....". Then, it came back the next year, identical in wording except this time it said "The 2008 Legislation session has begun..."

And now, we see it with "The 2009 Legislation session has begun...."

the point is simple--while we need to keep an eye out for bills that attack our constitutional rights, this is nothing more than a way to induce panic among the gun crowd. The libs had three years in 18 different states to get this into law, and couldnt do it in even one state, so if you REALLY think that they are trying to make a federal go at it now, I would really reconsider that position.

Not yet, but What i'm saying is now with a completely democratic central government, of which the president is very anti-gun, this may well BECOME a federal issue. As much i remember something about him wanting to FEDERALLY ban CCW, and ban pretty much anything semi-automatic.

Thats that crazy bitch Nancy Pelosi who thinks a semiauto shotgun is an assault rifle and should be banned.

Obama had something about an assault rifle ban on his website during the election but he 86'ed that shit REAL quick. Easier to get elected if you arent running around talking about banning weapons.
