Yeah, just pissed off I'm getting short changed on my fed tax refund. I made jack shit and they are keeping most of my money. I got the 668 bill for my dental work. Was hoping to get the hardship withdrawl and just get a couch with the cash, then pay installments for the dental work.

You turkey, you're paying 7% of your income for taxes, and you're still complaining?!

Yes, considering I have usually overpaid fully. I normally got every penny back. Last year, I paid 1108 in fed taxes and got back 1224 due to the hope credit. So you're damn right I'm complaining! :p

Depending on local laws, etc. I hear that the penalty would be 10% if you really need the $$$$.

Yep. I have 1051 vested, I'm hoping after taxes and penalty, that I can get 668 or whatever.

Do you really need a couch that bad? You are losing a lot of money by taking an early withdrawl.

I realize furniture isn't a necessity by any means, but if it were, I would say that I REALLY need the couch that bad. I have one of those stupid metal futon couch things. The metal is all broken so I have it propped up on bricks and tied together with rope. The thing is basically caving in in the center so the actual mattress part of it sits pretty darn close to the ground. Also, where I am now I don't plan on making a career out of it so what I do with this 401k doesn't really impact me (that much). But to honestly answer your question; Yes. I believe I really do need the couch that bad.

If you REALLY need the money and take a loan against it and repay it you are guaranteeing yourself 7.5+% interest on what you borrow, and with the market the way it is right now in the short term it wouldn't hurt you that much.

He has a good point. This is not a set of rims you can just wash off. There has to a lot of the furniture places doing the no payments until 2009 since Jan retail sales are in the shitter.

I found a decent couch new for 399 bucks. It has 2 recliners so it's cool with me. 89 bucks to deliver, but I may just heeb out and get a U-haul van for 20 bucks.

I would say that applies to people in Career stages of life. I'm working at a meaningless job that I hate to get some income. Pardon me if I sound arrogant, but the shit is borderline demoralizing for a college grad to be working here. I'll have a good enough 401k with the State Police to compensate.

Dude, you live in America :P

In NY of all places

The money is there, just go get it.

Quit sitting around at your desk and whining about your job, just get another one.

Dude the market sucks here. I applied for a job with Time Warner doing installs (Free Cable, Phone and Online) and they wouldn't even call me for an interview. I have much experience with that kind of stuff. I also applied for a job with the gas and electric company for meter reads (at 25 bucks an hour) and they showed interest, but never contacted me for the 3rd and final interview.

You're supposed to contact THEM when that happens! Arghh!

Vert8813B
02-14-2008, 02:18 PM
They sent me out letters and everything not to contact them throughout the whole process. Wtf.

Well then, two applications arent enough :)

And the lack of a callback certainly allows a callback, how else would you be able to ask
"What do you think I could do to better qualify for the position in the future?"

Eh, I applied for that Insurance Fraud Investigator position. Maybe good news will come my way with that.
