Whatever you do be sure to learn how to safely operate your gun. My step-father was Airborne Ranger and Special Forces. He even coached a couple of the Army's Olympic pistol teams in the '60s. I got some good training. Also keep the gun stored safely. I have two sons one of which is about to turn seven and they other will be three years old 16 days later. The Glock pictured has a locking magazine and the rifle has a cable lock.

Damn. Looks like he's got just about everything Glock makes that a civilian can own, plus a revolver for good measure!

The G34 is fine for target practice and shooting matches, but if I buy another pistol I'll likely either go for a Kimber .45 or a Glock 20 to get some stopping power.

I did not know that. In WA it's pretty easy to get a concealed carry permit. I need to go get mine. It adds credibility with Sherrif's Deputies and other law enforcement if you're out in the woods shooting and they ask questions. Or if you get pulled over when you have a gun in your car.

Oh, are we back on guns now? I bought a Swiss K31 rifle a couple months ago. It's an interesting straight-pull bolt action rifle made to the Swiss' typically high standards. It's an odd chambering in 7.5x55mm, but it operates and shoots beautifully. Ammo is available from Graf's, Ammo Man and others. It's a .308 sized bullet so reloading isn't as tough as you might think at first glance. I cut down the stock on mine so it no longer looks like a WWI relic. I need to get out and shoot it a bit more to get it sighted in properly.

I cut the stock just behind the ring that attaches the sling and got rid of the top piece all together. It looks much nicer now. This isn't mine, but it give you and idea of how much different it looks with the stock cut down. My gun still has the original blued barrel and open sights rather than the stainless barrel and diopter.
