they must be registered with authorities because they are "assault weapons"....which is pathetic, because of the facts surrounding such weapons when compared to a regular rifle that one could buy at walmart....

But by the way, they are all semi-autos....the only way to legally own an automatic weapon is to have a FFL, if I recall right....

"registered" i thought they were straight up banned from california. unless you are a dealer or have a license.

edit: it says people owning the assault rifle pre-ban must "register"

i found this...

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=266355

so are there loopholes for "assault rifles in cali"?

skydivr7673
09-04-2006, 05:10 PM
there are loopholes.....when he says "lowers", he is referring to only a part of the rifle. This is about getting various "legal" parts into CA so they can be bought and assembled into legal guns. The law is really ignorant down there about these guns...

so you can build a fully fuctional semi auto ar15. that isnt top loaded. and own it in california without it being illegal?

the only way to legally own an automatic rifle is to have a Class III weapons liscence, a tax stamp, and approval from your local law enforcement. Around here that means that you need the approval of the sherrif.

ok sry not toploaded but it has a stupid internal mag.

http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=213

i belive that means you cant drop the mag out and pop in a new one. like you have to feed every bullet into the gun with that mag already loaded.

maybe im wrong?

i also did some more research. do i only need a FFL license to own a semi-auto ar15? with the removible mags. or do i need a class III weapons license also?

i tried calling gunshops and they dont like to talk about it. its a "touchy" subjec to them.. heh

EDIT: heres that toploaded ar15 i was talkin about

Yes there is a top loaded AR-15. It is sad.

But the belt feed one is cool.

ah, I see what you are talking about. That is the same as the old M1 Garand rifles of WWII....they drop a clip of bullets in from the top and start shooting. When you said top load, I was thinking of the mag being put on the top of the gun, like some of the old Japanese machine guns.

BTW, just some more info on Class III (3 for the daft) weapons liscences and Tax Stamp transfers and whatnot. It has been known to take as long as 18 months for a transfer to be approved.

uh, that isnt even an M1 rifle.....its an M14. But yeah, the flash hider is a problem. And no, the belt fed is not legal--he never said it was.

AmishBoy

6 things define an assault rifle.

1. Detachable box feed magazine
2. Flash hider
3. Grenade launcher
4. Pistol grip
5. Collapsible stock
6. Bayonet lug

These are 6 things they attacked after full auto and short barrels were made illegal.

California law states you can only have one of the listed evils and be legal.

The M1A1 pictured has a muzzle brake NOT a flash hider. It only has one evil a "Detachable box feed magazine". Making it legal.

An AR-15 with a muzzle brake, fixed stock, belt feed, and a "pistol grip" has one evil, the "pistol grip". I have never challenged this in Cali. but it should hold up. But don't be confused belt feed does not mean, "Full auto" it is still "semi auto".

Full auto /semi auto has nothing to do with the assault weapon designation.

Belt feed has never been addressed to my knowledge.

One other thing "Grenade launcher" can be a "flash hider/muzzle brake" that can be used with a blank shell.

Well yeah that doesn't have any of the 6 listed evils. But California is a communist state. I won't do anything in California and a couple other states. Make damn sure it's legal before you do anything.I wouldn't sell a toothpick to somebody in California. It might be considered an assault weapon.

Maybe you should just move.

Or do one of these.
