I don't get that shit... Why buy a car if you are too much of a pussy to drive it anywhere?

"OmG! pOsiBulL d0oR dInGs!"

I can understand keeping your car clean and looking nice, but what's the point of all of that wax and hard work if no one can see it because you don't drive it anywhere?

My car has 250k~ miles on it.

It's my daily beater.

Is this the Costco one?

I sensed a disturbance in the force and someone was following me. I guess that was u.

I get that everyday............... no joke.

And this Friday I'll be at www.concorso.com where my www.laughatrice.com photo was taken.

Chances are is that the same goons wll be there with their FWD Honduh.

Here is another weird thing.

I pull into the Costco lot and a group of 5 ghetto girls stop talking.

They are looking at me and the car talking about something related to me and my car (girls are bad at hiding that when they are in groups).

And then one of them comes to my car and asks what sorta cologne do I wear.

WTF!?!?!?

I said CK1, Bulgari, Davidoff, Aqua Di, etc.

SHe proceeds to tell me that she got some samples and wanted to see if I was interested in checking them out.

I said no thanks and she was persistant.

Too bad she was ghetto looking ............ as in from East PA.

It helps! I'm thinking about putting one on my FD
Since i drive it 80-100 miles a day from daly city to mountain view....And 280 is windy and you cant drive slooow! Average is 75-80MPH

i even more like the story when a biker was following batman close behind. batman asked why and the biker said that the spoiler was blocking the wind for him =p

do u have any idea of what ur talking about?

got any experience on the topic matter?

think about it.

my wing has 4x the surface area, greater angle of adjustment, and greater curvature on the second/top deck.

Years ago I read somewhere that the Stock supra wing provides 60lbs of downforce at 80MPH.

What do u think mines does?

I know I FEEL a difference for sure at 80MPH +.

BATMAN

don't bother arguing the "well, u don't need is since u'll never use it on the road" argument.

That's tantamount to saying that u don't need more than 150HP on any cars since u "won't need it"

just as moot as arguing with jimlab about why he should have dropped in a 20B instead of a vette engine in HIS car.

BATMAN
08-17-2005, 12:34 PM
at 80MPH+ i can see a noticable bow on the top deck that almost touches the lower deck.

when the car was parked, outta curiosity I wanted to see how much weight it would take to get it to bow in the middle.

I eased my weight from the top and would guess that it was roughly 100-120lbs of my weight. I'm at 165-170~. I was standing on the scale and watched as it dropped down while I was leaning on the second deck.

Now that is just the middle section of the deck. Just think of what the rest of the wing was getting.

The numbers jump up exponentially and u can feel it.

I love the massive rooster tails that I make when it rains.

Pass an 18 wheeler and they start to get road water on their windshield.......... somethign that they don't usually get from most cars.

20b over an LS1? lmao.

An LS1 in an FD body is about the best "affordable" car you could ever own...

Yes, it is your car. I was just questioning WHY you would do such a thing to an FD body. I dont think the downforce would justify the looks....main reason I didnt do that to my R1.

The factory FD spoiler is just as ugly. Base models look the best. No sunroof no spoiler.

BATMAN

i did go that route for a while.

Look at the sig.

But I got bored and talked to a few guys from here and there, including ones that I met at www.concorso.com with their street ferraris that have aftermarket spoilers as well.

They swear by it and once u have it on the car the downforce outweighs the looks for me.

I'm running into Elise on the freeways trying to out corner me on some of the fast sections of certain freeways that are winding.

Besides, the wing commands respect since none of them seem to want to play anymore. They don't know what to make of my car since it doesn't even look or sound street legal.

I don't have any real problem with u except having to read the complaints and love letters from other members about u.

a few is ok.

But now I'm starting to face the music for u.

So what do I do? look for the root ailment.

and it points right at u.

hence this thread, which another mod has moved.

meddle and I posts are sarcastic and have the shits and giggles theme to it. hence we don't get much complaint. however, much of ur posts, according to others, have direct malice attached to them.

I'm not an expert, but the way I understand it the lower the spoiler the less the down force the taller the spolier the greater the down force. If the spoiler is not as tall as the top of the car you're not getting much down force.

I have been told that if the spoiler is just a few inches below the roofline that it will work the best.

The logic behind that is that as the jet stream is passing over the roofline it will decend toward since the rear glass area creates sorta a vacuum effect and accelerates the air down into the path of the spoiler.

There is a subtle difference of the bowing effect when the sunroof position is changed.

Of course........ Before I embarked on this I too was adverse to that ricer look.

But I started to do some research and u see the same sorta wings on greater and more expensive cars like 911, ferraris, C5, Vipers, etc...

I'm not going to install something like that without some logic to justify it.

This is actually some kind of ricer loophole. In this case everyone wants to go with the smaller wing, which has less performance making the small one rice by definition. And the big one, which actually works, is thought to be rice because people don't like how it looks.

The small ones are better than nothing I guess. But saying the big one is rice is just ignorant.

I guess it might help them in a curve. But no they don't power the back wheels so there isn't allot going on in the back of the car that would even cause it to break loose in a curve.

BATMAN
08-17-2005, 05:12 PM
since they are under powered and FWD with greater front weight bias.

If anything they need it for the front.

The bottom line is that the larger the surface area, the less speed u need to travel to gain what a smaller surface area will provide.

Havent read the whole thread. Just jumping in.

Down force also equals drag right? why would you want that?

Does the back end of such a well designd car as the FD really feel light at 80mph? Pretty shitty if so.

Saying you need more downforce for an 80mph comute is rediculous.

So you don't have to go nearly as fast to put unneeded drag on your car?

Well I think curves at low speeds do better with the bigger wing. But it's a tuning thing, you really have to change to suit what you are doing at the time. Allot of newer cars come with adjustable ones that tilt to allow it to increase or reduce drag.

I want the rear as planted as possible on high speed turns.

The drag increase is well worth it.

It's a moot point.

Sorta like saying that high performance engines suck gas for the most part.

It depends on what u want to live with.
