oakback 02-16-2009, 09:17 AM I'm going to use part of my tax refund to get a new grill (the rest goes to pay debt, sigh).
When we had a working/non-shitty grill, we used it a lot. We cook most of our meals, and in the summer time it's nice cooking outside, so the kitchen and adjacent rooms don't heat up.
So I'm trying to find a grill (or brands of grills) that actually last a long time, quality over quantity and all that (it doesn't have to be large). I was looking at some at Lowes and Home Depot, and I spotted a few that looked real nice, but upon closer inspection I could already see rust forming in certain spots (and these were indoors).
Any suggestions?
1revnrex 02-16-2009, 09:32 AM Weber has always been my brand of choice but 300 bucks usually wont get you much from them. What size of grill are you looking for?

Watch for sales for Vermont Castings at Depot. I bought one two years ago, zero complaints.

A large size isn't really a priority, but I'd like one that stands on its own (as opposed to standing on a table or whatever, with the short legs). We mostly grill for just us (2 to 4 people), we don't grill for a party often enough to warrant the purchase of a large grill.

Thanks, I'll check it out!
czarofzar 02-16-2009, 11:48 AM or do a poor mans way. locate an abandoned refrigerator. take the wire shelves. set it over logs, and presto, you have cooked meat and for $0 dollars
oakback 02-16-2009, 12:22 PM Sorry, already burned up all my trash wood, and the good wood is saved for the wood-burning stove inside. :)
Plus the shitty grill I have now does that job just as well, I'm just sick of the shitty grill.
Steel 02-16-2009, 12:59 PM Charcoal is the way to go.
czarofzar 02-16-2009, 01:08 PM steel has the best charcoal grill around, if not the best anti-lighter fluid charcoal lighter upper.
oakback 02-16-2009, 01:15 PM I like the taste charcoal has, but I like gas for day-to-day convenience, and the time savings. I prefer charcoal when I'm cooking for a larger crowd.

Holy crap their stuff is pricey! $700-$1,700 on amazon.com.

I got mine at Depot for around $300 or $400, I think... Not too sure.
Yeah, it's pricey. But look at it this way: You can spend that money once, and have it last you for 10 years, or you can buy shit that lasts 2 or 3 years, then go buy another one.
Like I said, no problems. The only regret I have is that I didn't get one with the burner on the side for a saucepan.
I cook everything on one of those indoor electric grills (not a George Foreman, it's alot nicer, all stainless)
yes, the food cooked on an electric grill is a little more bland, but I'm convinced it's much healthier, because it's not being roasted in carbon fumes, plus it's much faster, no gas to deal with, and it's sooooooo much easier to clean
blah! I hate those things. Electric grill = zero flavour.
czarofzar 02-16-2009, 06:50 PM just put something on it :wackit:
fixed
Tofuball 02-17-2009, 07:09 AM I've got three grills. People just keep giving them to me. Want a propane grill?
czarofzar 02-17-2009, 07:16 AM sure
Tofuball 02-17-2009, 08:46 AM Come pick it up :P
oakback 02-17-2009, 12:46 PM I think I'm going to check out the Kenmores. I've had several people recommend them as a "not too expensive, yet durable" grill, and a couple say they've had them over 5 years without any problems.
$100T2 02-22-2009, 07:47 PM Just saw this at Lowe's yesterday, it's $299. Looks pretty solid. 4 burners with a side burner for boiling water or whatever. Good deal.
oakback 02-23-2009, 03:02 PM What brand? How's the cooking surface? I want a cooking surface with thick, wide bars, not stamped sheet metal or thin round bars.
