Tofuball 11-11-2008, 07:31 PM My wife was wondering what she could do that would allow her to work from home and pull in some cash for the family to help pay off the mortgage and all that fun jazz. I've been looking around and there really doesn't seem to be anything REASONABLE, but that wont keep me from starting a thread about it! (In before anything mentioning working on the phone) czarofzar 11-11-2008, 07:44 PM its hard work and risky with little reward. if it were worth my time and effort, surely I'll be doing it. good luck on your find. fcdrifter13 11-11-2008, 07:46 PM Avon?????? But seriously i dont know. Turbo II Rotor 11-11-2008, 07:46 PM Sex phone hotline. wotnartd 11-11-2008, 07:46 PM Sex industry. Vert8813B 11-11-2008, 11:16 PM Daycare? Misty Rayne 11-11-2008, 11:38 PM yeah do you guys have family daycare there?? wotnartd 11-12-2008, 01:27 AM His house is like 835 ft^2 czarofzar 11-12-2008, 05:37 AM so, tie them to a tree. they'll pick up the crap later or perhaps the dog will eat the shit. Tofuball 11-12-2008, 05:44 AM yeah do you guys have family daycare there?? Yeah, wonner is right about that: the 800sft house hinders that :p Also the house directly across the street (the one that was 700K before housing prices fell, and is now 600K, OUCH (at least they save on property taxes?)) already operates a professional daycare. Vert8813B 11-12-2008, 06:03 AM She could stuff envelopes for a business or just graphically design menus for a restaurant; assuming she knows how to use Microsoft Word. Tofuball 11-12-2008, 06:51 AM Envelope stuffing? Does that pay even remotely decent for 3-4 hours a day of work? Vert8813B 11-12-2008, 08:41 AM No. Probably between 20-28 dollars a day at 4 hours. It's something though. I did that under the table before I could legally work. Saved up for a bike that way. Tofuball 11-12-2008, 09:53 AM It's not worth it for her to spend 4 hours stuffing envelopes even for $30. :P Vert8813B 11-12-2008, 10:01 AM Fussy pants IMO. wotnartd 11-12-2008, 12:50 PM Yeah, wonner is right about that: the 800sft house hinders that :p Also the house directly across the street (the one that was 700K before housing prices fell, and is now 600K, OUCH (at least they save on property taxes?)) already operates a professional daycare. wonner? WONNER!? Vert8813B 11-12-2008, 12:54 PM You got AIDS, bro. (Sorry Wonner, I had to) rtryb2200 11-12-2008, 04:58 PM Check this company out www.unitedhealthgroup.com I know a lot of people here work from home for them doing claims works and such. Plus they pay for their interwebz. Not too bad a place if she could get in. I think they allow part time employess also.. Vert8813B 11-12-2008, 05:01 PM You have to do a long training program in person with UHG and can not take any days off while doing it. rtryb2200 11-12-2008, 08:10 PM You have to do a long training program in person with UHG and can not take any days off while doing it. Vert8813B 11-12-2008, 11:06 PM I say BS, some of the people I know did training for like 2 weeks tops and then were working from home It's possible I guess. I thought it was a 4 week training though. Maybe varies by area? oakback 11-13-2008, 07:42 AM Ebay? Buy a bunch of trinkets and sell them at markup. Do you have kids? I've heard of moms who pair up outfits of clothes that don't fit the kids anymore, and sell them on ebay for some decent cash. I should do that, we've got a butt load of clothes we donate all the time. Kids grow like kudzu. Tofuball 11-13-2008, 07:50 AM Whore your body for science. Lots of $ there. I get $20/day to wear a booze bracelet. Easy money. Woot, get me in on that action. wonner? WONNER!? What? Herschel 11-13-2008, 09:36 AM What? LUL!!! You are so clever!!!! Seriously though, the eBay thing might be good. You guys could take a little family trip on the weekends to garage sales and such and pick up a few things. Then she can list them on eBay and get them all boxed up and stuff. You can even get the boxes picked up at your house once they've sold so she doesn't have to go anywhere. If she's crafty then she could even make some stuff to sell. I would have to say the eBay would be a win for a stay at home mom......It's easy to make money on eBay if you have the time it takes to keep track of everything which it sounds like she does. One tip though.....remember to make your mark up cover the PayPal and shipping fees. 1.) Get stuff on the cheap from silly people. 2.) List stuff on eBay at a mark up. 3.) Have boxes picked up at home. 4.) Enjoy underpants. 5.)...... 6.)Profit!!! oakback 11-13-2008, 09:42 AM 6.)Profit!!! For once the final step of "profit!" actually makes sense. Gift baskets are a perfect example. It's all composed of stuff anybody can buy anywhere, but nobody ever wants to put it all together themselves. Tofuball 11-13-2008, 09:44 AM We were thinking that, but with RX-7 parts. However, she's not good at sales\part identification like I am :/ Tofuball 11-13-2008, 09:44 AM For once the final step of "profit!" actually makes sense. Gift baskets are a perfect example. Herschel 11-13-2008, 10:00 AM We were thinking that, but with RX-7 parts. However, she's not good at sales\part identification like I am :/ She doesn't have to be. Make yourself an inventory and mark stuff with numbers. 1.) You be glad you inventoried your stuff because it's SOOOOOO much easier to deal with that way, and 2.) All she has to do is copy your descriptions onto eBay. Admittedly, there is a little upfront work that you will have to do, but in the long run you will be happy you took that effort up front. Another piece of advise because I know how frugal you are....Go to big shipping companies or large retail stores and dumpster dive packing materials (peanuts, styrofoam, boxes, etc.) and make sure you pack stuff right or it will cost you more down the road when something gets broken and problems arise with the buyer..... Vert8813B 11-13-2008, 10:14 AM Are you calling him a jew? Herschel 11-13-2008, 10:18 AM Are you calling him a jew? No. I'm calling him frugal, but please.....carry on with your anti-semitism..... Then I've already done all the work, nothing left for her to do :P I get packing materials free, I work at a school. Herschel 11-13-2008, 01:13 PM Then I've already done all the work, nothing left for her to do :P Not hardly.....If you have several things up for bid it can almost be a full-time job.....Plus, she would have to organize shipments and keep the stuff that didn't sell listed. There's still plenty to do. And that's only with the car parts. If she was selling/making other things as well, then that would keep her busy.... |
