I've been interested recently in aquiring a WRX as a replacement for my LandRover and wanted to to get an idea of the cost of modifying the car (within warranty conditions) to produce more horsepower.

All initial modifications would need to be within the constraints of the warranty. Eventually this would be foregone to eventually reach 300+hp. (my target for HP)

What I am looking for in this thread is a listing of suggested parts and manufacturers of these parts that produce stuff that is worth putting on the car (ie better than OEM equipment as far as quality and effectiveness goes)

I have not personally had the opportunity to modify my sports car (Porsche 944) as it's being intentionally kept as close to stock as possible.

Thanks,
ZA

Brian Dowling and Derrick should be able to help u out on this topic. God knows how much has been done to Dowling's WRX already

acutally the modifications you can do within the extent of the warrenty would be 0. Hell, even if you put on the STi muffler they offer at the dealer they say it will void the warrenty. Although I hear that anything as legal as long is its bolt on and no welding is involved. And if any parts are removed, only those parts are voided by the warrenty. The easiest modifications are new downpipe and exhaust piping, with removal of the catalytic converters and resanator. That will give you about 30-40HP and reduce the turbo lag a good bit. After this is done, you could upgrade the turbo and intercooler. The WRX comes with forged pistons stock and internals are capable of pushin about 350-400HP to the flywheel. But one thing that wont hold up under hard driving with that much power is the tranny. MRT makes great replacements, for relitevely cheap. Dale Teague at Teaguesauto just outside of asheville could order all the parts for you or do the work. His website is Here (http://www.boxer4racing.com). If you have experience with boxer motors and think you can do the work yourself, then by all means.....saves you some cash to.

Ironic thing is...
If u buy a WRX you get an opportunity to join the SCCA for free... yet once you participate in an event, warranty is gone Sssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I won't tell if u won't tell

Yea, I've complained about that many of times. I've sent a couple letters to Subaru Of America and asked why the hell they did that. No reply as of yet. Ticks me off, cause the WRX is such a tunable car, and yet they act like they don't wan you to tune it, and they give a free membership to the SCCA, but they don't want you to participate. Personally I think its just the guys at the dealership feeding me a load of crap. I'll get to the bottom of it, don't worry

If you join SCCA from the free thing from subaru it voids your warranty? That is stupid. I was too lazy to send mine in, and I heard of this rumor. Where did you guys get your information from? Is it solid?

everything was told to me by a salesmen at the dealership. I'm gonna email Subaru of America again in a little bit and get some more info.

OK I got a reply from Subaru Of America about the Warrenty thing. Basically, the warrenty isn't voided by modifications to the car. However, any problems that occure as a direct result of the modifications will not be covered by warrenty, which is true with any car company.

And as for the SCCA thing, yes you can participate in an SCCA sponsored event, but, any damages or problems that occure by racing in the event will not be covered by warrenty, which basically means don't get caught.

I kind of figured that would be the response, and I was right. So, happy modding.

That warranty stuff seems entirely logical. I think I could handle that, now I just have to figure out how to handle paying for a new car. Don't see it happening in the very near future :-(
