Corban 03-29-2002, 09:04 AM What do you guys think about carbon fiber brake pads? I need some pads that aren't gonna fade/glaze over after a couple times of hard braking at 100mph. But also budget is a concern. What do you fellers think? Uglymexican19 03-29-2002, 12:40 PM i think that u need to take care of the of the THING first and then worry about your brakes... JetBlack325i 03-29-2002, 01:10 PM Carbon fiber are okay....they make a lot of dust though. *I washed my wheels about 2wice a week when I had them on the GTP. *I just put on Hawk HPS Pads last weekend with Robert's help. *They made a little noise when I first put them on but they are silent now. *Less dust too. *And it's a lot of fun following the directions to get them broken in. *6-10 stops from 30ish then 4 hard stops from 40 * After that you can drive normaly - no other break in needed. Hawk HPS are for heavy street use, HP Plus are light track and very heavy street use, but they tend to eat your rotors quickly. *Anyway, check out tirerack...For the bimmer, it was $67front/ $60 rear. Oh, and $10 for those stupid sensors One last thing...Hawk's are Ferro carbin not just carbon fiber. Corban 03-29-2002, 01:43 PM Yeah I checked tirerack but they didn't have them for my car. Go figure. I couldn't find hawks for my car at all. I don't really care how much dust they make as long as they don't fade and almost kill me. I've heard alot of good things about hawks though. I wish I could find them for my car. Thanks for the help. Hightach Tibby 03-29-2002, 02:05 PM i'd go w/ Green stuff...but..Red Stuff is also good. no dust and no fade. streetported Rx7 03-29-2002, 08:28 PM i think you would stop good and fast but i think that they will be to expensive to buy Corban 03-30-2002, 05:05 PM Anybody have any experience with KVR pads? I found some carbon fiber ones from them that were pretty cheap. Thanks. rxtasy 03-30-2002, 05:49 PM After market vented rotors will solve ur fading prob. As the pads heat up under continuous heavy braking, the heat transfers thru the metal backing plate to the caliper piston causing the fluid to boil for an instant, once given a short time to cool, ur braking returns to normal. Corban 03-30-2002, 05:53 PM So that's why my brake pedal got all squishy. Hmm. I was wondering about that. That could be bad huh? 03-30-2002, 09:39 PM we discovered his brake fade problem on that road I took you down streetportedrx7 JetBlack325i 04-01-2002, 01:16 PM FLushed my brakes last weekend and it was a pretty simple job. I used Valvoline (Dot 4) fluid because it had the highest wet boiling temp. Corban 04-03-2002, 11:42 AM yeah I'm thinking of doing that... Corban 04-03-2002, 09:46 PM From closer examination I've realized that I need new rotors too. So I think I'm gonna go with some cross-drilled candium plated ones. Anybody had any experience with the Candium plating. Is it worth the extra $15 per rotor? hurleyboi514 04-04-2002, 08:08 AM im not to sure about it, but i think it just keeps the rotors from getting all rust spotted and crap. the vented rotors i was lookin at for the 240 were gold and something plated to prevent corrosion. have u settled on a pad yet? ill be needing new brakes soon and i havent decided what i want to do yet. rxtasy 04-04-2002, 08:42 AM Unless ur putting them on a show car, that's 30 bucks u could spend somewhere else. Driving the car will keep any corrosion from building up. Corban 04-04-2002, 03:51 PM Yeah I meant to post saying that I've decided against getting them plated. It seemed gay after I thought about it. |
