Do I need another RX7?

I have the opportunity to buy an 89 GTUs... For $600. I haven't seen it, I've only been told about it... But the guy who told me about it knows the guy who's selling it, and I had him check it out over the weekend... Straight body, good interior... I don't think it's running... And, the rims just got stolen off it, which is why it's $600 instead of $900.

How rare is the GTUs model, exactly?

And you know that's exactly what I would do to it.

The 13B, tranny and ECU would go over to my FB.

I really don't want to be the typical "rotors pw3n all" faggot about this......

but, GTUs's are quite scarce and I vote you leave it as one.

You can pick up S5 internals for your FB else ware and there are plenty of other FCs available for small block swaps.

But no matter what you do with it, you'd be foolish not to buy it at that price.

GTUs's are quite scarce and I vote you leave it as one.Scarce and collectible are two entirely different things.

It's a 17+ year old import car with a bunch of problems and no real value. Why else would it be selling for $600? Why not slap a V8 in it and have a blast while getting excellent gas mileage?

Shit, you'd think that 10th Anniversary Edition '88s were discovered in King Tut's tomb based on the ranting and raving that goes on when someone dares to convert one otherwise bound for the junkyard to V8 power. :D

Actually, the guy who has inspired me the most with how nice his V8 conversion is did it to a 10AE... LT1 10AE on the club. His car is gorgeous.

I couldn't agree with you more, Jim.

I'd really like that. :)

I actually rode in an LS1 equipped FD a few times over the past month. . . . I honestly do feel like I wasted money on a ported motor, GT35R, v-mount intercooler, etc etc:(

The LS1's power is soooo smooth, and litterally sits your ass down and doesn't let up until you've basically creamed your pant's 9 times over. It pulls stronger than any 20B FD set up i've ridden (target: 400 hp), and sounds oh so nice. Sure the 20B sounds nice as well, don't get me wrong, but I personally feel (butt dyno) that the LS1 is the way to go. After I get this 13B all nestled in, i'm more likely than not going to pick up another FD, and drop one in. Not as elaborate as Jim's, but i'll get it in there none the less.

On a total side note, Jimbo, if you're reading this thread, does the Hinson kit completely remove any type of bumpsteer? I've read up and down their site, and it says the bumpsteer elimitation kit completely aleviates it, but I know you've done your own reasearch, and a company can tell me the stock air seperator tank is safe all day long, but when it comes down to it, the users have proved them otherwise.

I'd appreciate a quick yes or no if you have the time :)

Oh, and another thing... They told me the $600 is negotiable, so I might get a GTUs for even less than that.

They said it has a new water pump, but they "can't keep water in it. We think it's blown an apex seal."

I'd appreciate a quick yes or no if you have the time :)The spacers and tie rod ends that Brian re-sells (they're bought from a 3rd party) do eliminate bump steer.

It's not that hard to do; just make sure that the steering linkage is moving in an arc identical to that of the suspension by making the tie rod linkage parallel to the lower control arms.

I don't understand the GTUs thing. Its the holy grail of NONTURBO rx7's. thats like saying you got lucky and found a 4 cyl geo metro.

The nice thing about the GTUs is it has everything but the turbo. LSD, the heavier duty turbo stuff... Better suspension components, etc...

Sure, if I was going to go with a turbo set up, it's not the best choice, but if you're looking to swap out the rotary, it's got everything you need.

Except the GTUs doesn't have the 8" Turbo diff.

My '87 Sport is essentially an S4 GTUs with 4.10 gears. It has(d) the better springs and dampers. The dampers were completely shot after 180k miles of use so I put in KYB AGX dampers and RS-R Race springs. Still has the original sway bars. Has the good brakes. Put in DTSS eliminator bushings. Got an S4 TII diff from a wrecking yard and it checked out fine so it's now in the car. The stock fuel pump was replaced by a Walbro 255 LPH to keep up with the the needs of the LT1. I'm still waiting for the car to get back from the fabricator with its new roll cage. My Momo Start seat arrived today. I'll have to see if I can mount it to the stock sliders so trusted others can fit behind the wheel.

After I get the car back and I put a little more money in the bank I'll see about mounting the engine and trans and having a driveshaft fabricated.
