Supper 06-09-2007, 12:25 PM So i've been looking around at different options for spending money (yes, I spend money when I'm stressed) and I found a bike I've been wanting to buy for years. Didn't realize it was this cheap.
So, there is one for sale used @ $5,000 shipped to my door. Or there is a brand spankin new one, still in the crate for $5,824 shipped to my door.

oh, excuse me....that was the toy of the week ;)
nah, it wasn't the toy of the week. The YZ was on my mind because I mentioned to my Yamaha dealer that I was interested in swapping to a two stroke, and etc etc. Along with the prospect of being sponsored by him :)
But, I have always lusted after KTM's and everyone says they are the company to go through for two strokes. And after running the numbers, it would be much more economical for me to race a two stroke for my first season rather then a four stroke because of maintanence costs.
Supper 06-09-2007, 01:52 PM I haven't really followed it in the last 5 years or so, but KTM usually lagged a bit behind Honda at least in terms of overall build quality, perhaps that has changed
espeically since honda discontinued its two stroke line. KTM is now considered top dog when it comes to fit and finish so long as you don't mind the linkless rear suspension.

nathantheman 06-09-2007, 10:38 PM oh you gotta go new with that motocross shit. u want it to last right? those things are higher maintenance than anything else without tits. oh and you should buy a fourstroke instead. you'll have way more fun, and you'll win more races. and trust me, the maintenance is the same. all the valves and stuff you won't have to worry about for at least a season.

my advice is also NONE OF THE ABOVE!.
but, if you're going to buy one anyways, new for 15% more than used = one hell of a good deal IMO. Buy new.

already have a couple fourstrokes. And offroad != MX as has been discussed before. Guys running the MX four stroke motors in GNCC and Harescrambles are having to rebuild once every two or three races to prevent something going south. Thats what happens when you have a race that goes 3 hours non-stop, its a little harder on your motor then a 15 minute moto at MX.

I rode one and almost bought one two years back. It was the last year they were produced, had been wrecked in Baja and only needed the suspension re-done to be 100%. Guy only wanted $1500 for it. I should have bought it and turned it around to some duner.
