SpartanTS 05-17-2005, 10:58 AM I have never really been big on cell phones, until now. I just bought a Motorola MPx200 and by far is one of the best phones that i've come across.
It's a Windows Mobile 2003 Phone and is a great clamshell replacement for my aging Motorola V60 that will be thrown out my window and ran over. A couple of drawbacks tho'. It doesn't have a camera, which I really don't care for anyway, and the battery life isn't so great, but that's nothing a secondary battery can't fix. But it does have an SD slot for and can play any form of audio/video media.
I had to send it to off to be unlocked so I could use it with my SunCom Sim card so I should have it back in a couple of days.
So...since we're talking about phones, what kind of phones do you guys have?

SpartanTS 05-17-2005, 12:38 PM Lg VX7000
:( Verizon.
I like the phone and service. The camera/ camcorder suck in low light. The flash is just there as a joke Im guessing bc it isnt worth using. I get signal everywhere I've been. The 25% discount is pretty nice brings my bill down to $48 total for 1000 anytime mins, unlimited txt, free in calling and nights / weekends. I rarely go over that most of my friends are with Verizon so its free. This month Ive used 1900 mins and 500 txts not bad for $48 imo.
preludedude 05-17-2005, 01:28 PM camera phones are useless to me....carmea phones Megapixel is like .5 or something...very shitty...i will never get a phone with a camera cause its pointless...i got a old school lg vx4400...verizon...happy with service..bill is usually $60 month and thats with 1k min, 1k text, etc...as long as it gets reception, i dont give a fuck what kind of little toys and gismos the damn thing has...
i think ppl are going way to far with a damn cell phone...

SpartanTS 05-17-2005, 01:37 PM I "had" an Ipaq that I used often and it's a bit much to carry around, so the MPx200 was a great replacement for both. My plan/service is always good with SunCom Unplan and when i'm out of SC, I just use my 600 minutes, which is fine for me when i'm outta town.
I pay $60 a month for my current plan, and once SunCom is purchased by T-Mobile, hopefully by the end of the year or Q1 2006, i'll switch to one of their plans.
I can agree that Camera phones do give horrible quality pics, unless you want to buy a $500+ Phone.
I've had bad service with both major CDMA carries (Verizon and Sprint), so i'll never give them another dime of my money. I'll stick with a GSM carrier with a good plan.
Etnies_Chic 05-17-2005, 03:06 PM Well i have verizon, and my phone hates life, if i call someone from my phone book, half the time it'll call the wrong person, or it'll show up as hte wrong person in my caller ID, people will call me and my phone will never ring, my texts will either not send, or i wont get them, or they'll send like 20 million duplicates, it hates life. but im up for a new one in october, lol.
SpartanTS 05-17-2005, 03:21 PM Word to the wise...never buy a phone through your carrier, unless you're getting a helluva deal. More than half the time, it's not worth it.
sharo227 05-17-2005, 10:50 PM i have sprint n they r the sux... spent 1095 one month bc they fucked up my plan
http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_detail.jsp?eUser=&prod_id=VM-A680 is my cell.. works ok but it dont play my ringtones to well lately n have cracked the first 1 i had of it open
CU ZCar 05-17-2005, 11:40 PM I have an aging Sanyo brick. Aside from its size I've been pretty happy with the phone, and it's been hot and cold with the Sprint service I have. The hardware is pretty solid, most recently demonstrated when I left the phone on my car's roof and drove off...leading to the phone smacking on the road, and the separated battery being flipped about by another car, and 5 minutes later I picked them up and was talking to someone about prospective jobs. It is pretty much ready to be replaced though, I'm thinking of getting a Nokia 6800 or similar to double as an organizer. I've messed around with Handspring and Mobilon units, but I don't take advantage of their full functionality...just need something to take notes on basically.
I say phone cams are also probably a gimmick, I'll probably get a small dedicated digital camera to keep in the car or keep with me, someday...just something that takes decent pics. Maybe something like the tiny Panasonic MPEG-straight-to-memory-card video cameras when the technology comes a little bit further. Oh yea, and when I'm making more money than I know what to do with. Got a while to wait...
Cosby 05-18-2005, 01:06 AM I wrote a paper on cell phone cameras so I don't really want to post my opinion or legal crap but I will say that I use mine pretty frequently even after the novelty has worn off. Etnies, take your phone in... they will replace it or flash it. Backup your contacts beforehand on paper.
SpartanTS 05-18-2005, 01:53 PM I'll buy a camera phone on my next cell phone purchase. This generation of camera phones don't have the quality that I would want. 640x480 doesn't really do it for me.
Once the 2MP Camera/SmartPhones are $250 or less, i'm in for one.
The camera comes in handy buying parts at FFW events. If my friends need something just snap a pic and get the go or no go on the purchase. And also getting pics of a heshemale (woman trying to be a man i guess) working at McDonalds with a mullet in Charlotte and sending them to Jeremy
Etnies_Chic 05-18-2005, 04:25 PM Osborne, i have, but even with the insurance it'd be 50 to replace my phone with the exact same one, or i can wait til october and get a new phone for like 100 or so max, thats an upgrade from what mine is, cause its not a camera phone or anything fun like that, and i can't get ringtones or games for it, cause they're non compatable with my phone, of course i get the only phone like that, lol.
ChevyMuscle 05-19-2005, 12:28 AM i've got alltel, and get a signal everywhere.... i was even out in the doggone booneys the past few days (oconee state park) and had a splendid signal where my girlfriend (suncom) was getting none whatsoever. my phone is some motorola phone, nothing cool about it besides its blue. color flip phone. nice phone, nothing fancy.
BTW just before i went to alltel i had cingular and couldnt even get a signal at my house. they've been raising the bar so much lately they've forgotten to tell their phone towers about it, cause my signal never improved. thats the crappiest service i ever got, if you know anyone going for new service, stay away from cingular, they absolutely suck

You have to have the new 64k sim card in order to see improvement in signal with Cingular/AT&T/SunCom. If you still have a standard 32k sim, you'll only be using only your towers, therefore no increase in signal ;)
Cosby 05-19-2005, 09:05 AM etnies, take it back... if it doesn't work they will keep doing crap until it does.
SpartanTS 05-19-2005, 12:10 PM Yea just keep on them until they offer you an "early" upgrade or just a replacement phone. If all else fails, just buy an unlocked new Verizon phone and have it activated. I'm not big on buying phones directly from carriers because I don't like renewing my contract. Everytime you opt for a new phone, you can tack on another year or two to your contract.
N1XRR 06-03-2005, 08:56 AM I bought a MPx200 earlier this year, and besides the fact taht it doesn't have 850/900 MHz (which is now required in the Clemson area) it was an awsome phone. I started having problems once Cingular started switching a bunch of towers in the area to 850/900 MHz. Sucks too, because I really liked the MPx200. Going to sell it soon, if anybody wants one.....$100!
I went out and purchased a Nokia 6230 and that is a REALLY awsome cell phone. Not NEARLY as large of a screen as the MPx200 (or the same quality....the 200 has an AWSOME screen), but it still has a MMC/SD slot, it VERY reliable and has unbelievable reception. Also, it has Bluetooth, if that is important to anyone.
SpartanTS 06-03-2005, 09:42 AM SunCom is perfect with my MPx200 since they use the PCS band 1900 MHz only. T-Mobile also uses the 1900 band as their primary band. Cingular relies a lot on their 850MHz band so they weren't an option with my MPx.
But yea it's a damn good phone. Maybe i'll get the 220 once I get tired of my 200.
