CHICAGO (AP) - An officer shot and killed a 150-pound cougar Monday on Chicago's North Side, police said.

Several residents reporting seeing the cat, which was more than 5 feet long, earlier Monday, officers said. It was shot dead in an alley.

One witness said the cougar leapt over a 6-foot tall wrought-iron fence.

The body of the animal shot in Chicago will be checked for markings, chips or tags that would show if it is owned by anyone, authorities said.

Officials in suburban Wilmette said they received several calls on Sunday reporting alleged cougar sightings. Police searched, but did not locate the animal.

A mountain lion jumped a 5 ft fence here in boulder and killed on of my co-workers full grown pit-bull for lunch, and with the dog in its mouth, jumped back over the fence.
