From the page: "The woefully bad install job was done at a local Circuit City store, where "qualified" technicians were attempting to install an AVIC-Z2. The installer proceeded to cut the wiring harness from the stock stereo, twist and solder together a new one, drill holes in the heating system, scratch up the front windshield, and crack all the plastic panels surrounding the thing. Sounds to us like the guy who tried to install his home satellite system with a .22 pistol could have done a better job. The install is so bad that the local Honda dealership won't release the car, saying all the shorted wires are a fire hazard."

That's why I installed the stereo and radio in my truck myself. Fuck these "certified technicians". I spent a few weeks fixing "quality" auto sound's speaker install in my truck. Dumb fucks.

My fiance bought me a new headunit for Christmas from one of the chains(Circuit City or Best Buy)...when I picked it out, she asked me if I wanted installation as well. I lol'd. Those idiots couldn't even give me the correct wiring harnesses.

If I am going to buy a stereo and install it myself, then I will buy from Crutchfield, because the harness is free.
As for 12K in damage, yeah...
It is a civic's.
$12k for a used Civic? Good luck.

Civics cost 12K! I'd rather just get myself a used E36 M3.

KBB quotes it at $23g. (Using the figure of 700 Miles on the clock according to some of the comments on the articles.) $22,700 actually.
Dash removal and replacement, replacement heating and A/C system, replacement wiring harness... Price that out using dealership parts for even an older car and it'll come up to a good couple thousand dollars.
Circuit City FTL.

On 7club, I read some interesting info about this. I guess the guy drove several hundred miles before taking it in, and there were a few other things that seemed like the guy cheaped out.

I'm not saying an 07 or 08 civic is cheap, but I think the $12k repair price thing is exaggerated. Last time I replaced a heater core or an evaporator, they were buried, well beneath anything that was shown in that video.
Yeah, they screwed up his car, but I am not seeing the amount of damage.

I think you're doubting how expensive wiring repairs can be :)
