Question for you two which car is faster a manual or auto 1993-2001 Camaro/Firebird/Trans Am? Another question, whats the deal with skip shift Robert?

STRacer: *As for which car is faster, I have heard about both autos and manuals being equally fast.. *Stock, though, I believe a manual would be slightly faster, due mainly to the fact that the rear gears are 3.42s w/ manuals (and 3.23s w/ the performance rear in automatics). *With a high stall converter, though, an automatic becomes much quicker off the line, etc...

Also, the '98s to '02 cars are "quicker" stock, than the '93 to '97s. That goes for v8 cars... However, any F body of the same year w/ the ls1 in it is about equally fast. For example, a '99 Z28 and a '99 WS6 will run very close together in a straight line.

And skip shift.. the deal is (if you don't already know.. ) that it keeps you from shifting from 1st to 2nd if the car is 1.) warmed up, 2.) accelerating at less than 25% (i think) throttle, and 3.) if the car is going b/w 15 and 20 mph. *Basically what it does is it forces you from 1st to 4th gear. *To disable this, I just put a 2.2k ohm resistor in the connector plug where it connects to the solenoid on the transmission. *(That keeps it from throwing an SES light.) *Tape that up really well to keep the water out, and you can go into 2nd gear whilest driving slowly through traffic. *

I'm pretty sure the autos have 3.42's, anyways yeah, 93-95 have 265, 96-97 have 275. uhh, i'm not sure how much the LS1's have, 305 maybe. anyways, I have an automatic, which isn't too fun, but i'm getting a stall convt. eventually... after slicks, cause i already have traction problems. i don't know where i'm going with this, i'm just babling really. anyways later

So, why let all the newbs have fun bumping the oldest of threads? Why can't we have the same joy and satisfaction?
