Dlaitini 07-28-2005, 01:40 AM Anybody know any ways to stiffen up the chassis of a convertible without adding bars that go over your head? I plan on getting alot more stuff done as soon as i get back from the desert. KatakanaKarl 07-29-2005, 12:38 AM Dude! Glad to see those crappy GI computers actually let you post on here. KatakanaKarl 07-29-2005, 12:51 AM Easy solution, just go and get the bars that go over your head. This: http://www.autopowerindustries.com/Images/Miata_Spec1_SM.jpg plus this: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b356/KatakanaKarl/hardtop2.jpg Equals: The Shiznit. Bad thing: That cage weighs like 100 lbs. Which means you'll have to get rid of another 100lbs of car to get it back down to the right weight. Who needs A/C anyway? Dlaitini 07-29-2005, 07:39 PM I plan on getting this bar as soon as i get back to the states http://www.flyinmiata.com/Store/images/20-28010.jpg However i plan on getting the flat black version, to maintain stealth. I might need to have bars welded in alongside the doors, as low as possable, like the lowest bar in the pic you posted. Might even have a bar put inboard of the seats on eather side of the tras tunnel. only a few more weeks left here :banghead: TJGoSurf 07-29-2005, 08:25 PM I thought miatas were fairly stiff to begin with? Weld a bar running inside the trunk in a upside down U going thru the unibody. KatakanaKarl 07-29-2005, 11:56 PM A few weeks? Got an ETA on that man? I thought you were over there until october? Sweet roll bar, by the way, but you still need to get that hardtop. Dlaitini 07-30-2005, 09:26 PM Its true that miatas are stiff to begin with (for a convertible) cause of Mazda’s use of the PPF (power plant frame) that runs from the engine to the differential. However, from all the reviews I read about the FM roll bar say that you can jack up the car from the front jack point without the bar and the front tire will come off the ground. Once you install the FM bar, which only bolts in places behind the seat, then jack the car up from tha same front point both tires on that side of the car will come up at the same time. Everyone on miata.net recommends it so ill be getting one. |
