Toxico 04-01-2004, 06:07 PM this is what they are saying
"Because of the factory keyless entry system in your vehicle, you will need to keep the factory radio in the vehicle and relocate it behind the dash. Detailed instructions are provided when you purchase a receiver from Crutchfield."
doesn't that seem kinda odd? Anyone ever installed a head unit in a 97 civic?
Cosby 04-01-2004, 06:12 PM has to be a way around that.. I know a guy with a sound shop, he could look it up for you
Toxico 04-01-2004, 07:14 PM yea, see if you can do that. it seems kinda odd
Stegall 04-01-2004, 09:29 PM thats bs. every rice boy in the world has a system in his 97 civic...
Cosby 04-02-2004, 12:13 AM wiring diagrams will be posted tomorrow
rxtasy 04-02-2004, 12:59 AM what's keyless entry got to do with the radio?
JPAccord 04-02-2004, 05:42 AM I guess the receiver for the remote is built into the radio. Its the same for me, dual climate control and keyless are built into the headunit. Most new cars are like that now.
wait til they swap to fiber optics instead of standard wiring. thats going to get interesting.

what did they do about your keyless entry and what not when you got your system installed ?
Cosby 04-02-2004, 10:24 AM you can wire a thing in that converts your rear outputs to RCA or you can just wire it in at the rear speakers but I don't like that way.
Stegall 04-02-2004, 12:14 PM But he has that in dash DVD reciever with the pop out screen...
Toxico 04-02-2004, 01:36 PM Well turns out the keyless entry remote doesn't work anyways. So we just pulled the stereo out and replaced it.
If you'll go a head and post up the diagrams it'd be nice to have them for future refference incase she ever gets a new remote.
Its called a "line level converter" it converts the front or rear channel into rca outputs.

If you look at the picture below you can probably see the stock headunit still there. Its the dark gray/black screen above the AC controls. I just got a kit that removed a storage compartment down below, and creates a place for an aftermarket cd player. So the dvd player controls the music, while the stock headunit is still there for ac and remote entry.
However, Metra, the company who made my kit, is releasing a kit for the 6 speed accords this month that replaces the entire trim piece that houses the stock cd player. It looks exactly the same, except the AC controls are up top where the stock cd player is now, and there is an opening when there AC controls are now. http://www.illstreet.com/albums/Johns-Stuff/P1010349.jpg
Stegall 04-02-2004, 11:26 PM that sounds expensive.
does the video moniter hit the a/c controls the way it is now ?
JPAccord 04-03-2004, 12:00 AM Yeah that piece is about 200 dollars, because of the AC and all that being integrated into the piece. I think i may sell my dvd player on ebay and buy the new kenwood dvd player that came out, because it can make the entire screen slide towards you. If i had that i could make it slide out enough that it could open without hitting the volume knob. And the answer your other question, yeah, it hits it. I can see the screen fine and navigate songs and cds fine, You just cant see video at the angle its at. I hope to fix it around my birthday, May.
Uglymexican19 04-03-2004, 05:52 PM Is the DVD player so that you can watch movies while driving???
Or is it for when you are wating for someone in your car and you decide to watch a flick?
or is it to take chicks in the back of your car and act like is a living room?
or is it used to show safety videos like comercial airplanes do?
or is it just to show off?
Just trying to understand the DVD concept in a vehicle.
Stegall 04-03-2004, 10:50 PM Bling factor Luis.... Bling.
My stang = Big time bling at the beach...
at school = big time laughs when i was pushing it out of a parking place :)
JPAccord 04-03-2004, 10:55 PM It just seems nicer than a normal cd player to me. I dont watch movies when im driving, im usually listening to a cd, but the touchscreen controls are nice.
Uglymexican19 04-04-2004, 08:43 AM i get you know thanks for clarifying it for me
Toxico 04-08-2004, 03:37 PM Chris, where's that wiring diagram? Its been like a week?
