So my LCD sony projection went out, sweet f'n 60" tv .

So I called sony and because there was some design flaw that caused 'blue clouds' on the screen.

So the gave me some names to repairmen to call.
Well this dude came by and said that hes fixed a few of these because of the flaw, but its probably out of warranty (later on I found that sony extended the warranty for all tv )

So after he came by and did his check of the tv he told me he will check with sony and if covered, will get the part and fix it. (Sony contracts repair out to local repairmen)

Later on this morning, the lady who runs the repair shop calls me and says that it isnt under warranty and the part will be about 1500 bucks to repair.

I told her that I will talk to Sony and that I will try to talk to getting them to cover the costs. She tried to tell me that it really wouldn't work and I shouldn't waste my time.

Well I called Sony anyway, and guess what I found out. Not only is Sony going to pay parts and labor for the repair, but they also told the repair shop they would cover it.

These fucking cheating bastards were going to charge me for the repair and also turn it into Sony for the warranty as well, thus getting 'double paid' for the repair. Well I caught them on it, I'm waiting to talk to them tomorrow and see how they weasel out of it. Fucking thieves trying to steal money from me....at 1500 bucks thats well over a felony.

First get them to email you a quote, in which they state that Sony won't cover it. And get Sony to email or fax you a statement saying they do. He said/she said phone arguments won't get you anything but an "oops!, sorry pal" whereas a paper trail could get them in the appropriate hot water or they might offer "We're fucked! um... want some money?" compensation.

How can a tv be LCD and projection?

I'd surmise that the image is generated on a transparent LCD panel in reverse and projected onto a large screen - same as the LCD projector systems for old overhead projectors when wanting to show the contents of a computer screen on the projector screen at the front of a classroom or boardroom.

Oh. I don't know shit about tv's. I know I have a big Samsung rear projection, but I thought projection and LCD were 2 different types of television.

LCD projection, at the time I bought the thing, the largest LCD was about 50". Sony had a LCD projection to get the picture up to 60"....had to have the largest.

Those bastards were supposed to call me yesterday but didn't. I'm calling today...

Try to bust them out like Manntis said and get Sony to drop them as "Authorized" repair people.

Most people won't call them to fix jack after that.

Then again, they'll probably just turn into an auto repair shop later and continue to rip people off...
