Soooo, in my Chinese history class, we came to the subject of Daoism. I didn't do the reading beforehand (woops) but it seemed like a very interesting philosophy of life. I can't make too many comments about it because I still don't know much about it aside from its anti-confucian in a sense. I'm going to read some of the passages of Zhuangzi, "The Way of Zhuangzi". And some of the Dao De Jing.

Anyone have thoughts? Except markie because I really don't care what you say about this subject, and I can already guess what it will be.

Asian religons are more peaceful and seems to have an philosophical emphasis.

YZF's religon is all about fear, carnage, "my-way or the highway", death, hate and alot of stuff from hell

Too bad that Taoism is a philosophy and not a religion....I think that you can almost say the same about Shinto, but the promotion of dead persons to 'gods' may be the crossover. It may be that the 'gods' they are referring to are more like our western 'ghosts'...anyway. How many times have we said that our dead loved ones are looking down on us.....its the same reasoning. That the spirit is eternal...

You can still observe Taoist reasoning and still be a Christian. YZFs point of it being a religion just shows his ignorance on the subject.

LOL at yzf quoting wikipedia.

Who knows what ultra right wing nutjob edited that we page....

I was taught in my Asian studies course that it was more of a philosophy....there may be elements of polytheism, but that is different secs adding to it....for instance Buddhism.

And BTW most of the Chinese herbal medicine comes for Taoism. So that saw palmetto that you take for you enlarged prostate there YZF comes from Taoism....so in sense you are a practicing Taoist as well. HYPOCRITE! :)

Yeah what I got from the professor is that's it's a philosophy above all else, and only recently became a 'religion', and that term is still quite loose. They describe the deity.. which isn't really a deity but, for all intents and purposes as being inconcievable, indescribable, unfathomable, but the name given to it is The Way, or Dao (or Tao whichever way you want to romanize it.. but it's prononced with the D sound).

I like Zhuangzi's writing kind of funny actaully, and thought provoking as well.

"Zhuangzi and Huizi were strolling along the dam of the Hao Waterfall when Zhuangzi said, "See how the minnows come out and dart around where they please! That's what fish really enjoy!"
Huizi said, "You're not a fish — how do you know what fish enjoy?"
Zhuangzi said, "You're not me, so how do you know I don't know what fish enjoy?"
Huizi said, "I'm not you, so I certainly don't know what you know. On the other hand, you're certainly not a fish — so that still proves you don't know what fish enjoy!"
Zhuangzi said, "Let's go back to your original question, please. You asked me how I know what fish enjoy — so you already knew I knew it when you asked the question. I know it by standing here beside the Hao." (17, tr. Watson 1968:188-9)

........and you shouldn't laugh at anyone quoting wiki...

Quoted from the Wiki:

"Archaeological evidence suggests that the earliest humans in China date from 2.24 million to 250,000 years ago. A cave in Zhoukoudian (near present-day Beijing) has fossils dated at somewhere between 300,000 to 550,000 years. The fossils are of Peking Man, an example of Homo erectus who used fire."

Look the Wiki timeline:

Exactly my point, anyone can add to this, and the fact that you quoted it as a religion on proves the biased, that any nut job can add their two cents.

But back to the saw palmettow... from WIKI (LOL)

"Saw palmetto extract is an extract of the fruit of Serenoa repens. It is rich in fatty acids and phytosterols, and has shown promise in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia[1]."

First sentence....its used for the prostate. Period. So you probably stated taking it to stop the swelling in your butt from all of the Det that you were taking for hair loss....

But a word of warning
"Contraindications and side effects

Though men taking saw palmetto may develop mild nausea, reduced libido, or erectile dysfunction, the rate of such problems is clinically and statistically far less common than in men taking drugs to treat BPH symptoms, based on the JAMA meta-analysis cited above. There are no known drug interactions. It should generally be avoided in pregnancy and lactation and in small children due to lack of experience and knowledge in these populations and because of the purely theoretical risk of hormonal interference.

It has not been proven that Saw palmetto causes a reduction of libido or erectile dysfunction. In fact saw Palmetto is used also as a light aphrodisiac; Saw palmetto reduces the DHT in the blood in a different way than Finasteride which could cause reduced libido. It is common to find in herbal drugs as a cure for sexual problems, such as reduced libido or erectile disfunction, a small dose of saw palmetto extract associated with ginseng or other plants that contain L-arginine (Emanuel Gargiulo)

While saw palmetto is generally considered safe, one of its primary active ingredients, beta-sitosterol, is chemically similar to cholesterol. High levels of sitosterol concentrations in blood have been correlated with increased severity of heart disease in men who have previously suffered from heart attacks.[12]

As with other nutrients and herbs, various people may have different responses based on their chemical and biological make up."

I should start marketing "Jesus" chewable vitamins. Because "God really intended you to live 600 years".

Hopefully I can make enough to get into the oversea animal transport business.

Have you ever taken hair loss drugs?....yea...thats what I thought. Lying by omission is still a lie and a SIN.

wiki is all over the place, some of the articles are good and some of them are biased garbage...depends on the peer review

then again, evolutionary indoctrination is so pervasive that you're going to get this type of thing anywhere

So if Wiki or anything else "agrees" with your beliefs then it's golden in your books?

Sounds like the usual subjective inconsitent crap that you spew like a volcano on the island of HI.....
