FIVE people were killed and 16 others injured when lightning struck a funeral on Friday in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, Xinhua news agency reported today.

The lightning bolt hit a plastic shack that a villager constructed to hold a funeral for his wife.

Three people were killed at the scene and another two died in hospital. The 16 injured were still hospitalized and in stable condition, the report said.

Two middle-aged women, two 14-year-old boys and a four-year old child were all killed in the incident, the report said.

Lightning strikes claimed 403 nationwide as of July this year, equivalent to last year's total, the China Meteorological Administration said last month.

Lightning storms caused damage to a number of buildings, electricity supply facilities and electronic devices. Total direct economic losses topped 80 million yuan (US$10.57 million), said the administration.

This whole situation with China is almost painfully ironic, seeing how just a few days ago they were threatening to crash the market if the US imposed trade sanctions and potentially changed the value of their booming currency. Now it's as if the big guy above himself is dropping fate bombs all over their shit in retaliation. They'd be lucky to get half the business they were before, at this rate. :rofl:
