I was just wondering are there any major differences in the transmissions of s4's and s5's? would putting an s4 transmission because it was all you could find in an s5 raise any problems or cause any drawbacks over the original s5 transmission?
Also, after doing this it would mean you needed to buy clutches for the 86-88 models correct? Any help would be much appreciated, and yeah i did search first.
*edit* We're talking about an N/A btw

Its been a wile, but to the best that I can remember the transmissions are basicly the same between the years, if there is any difference in the drivetrain its in the rear end gearing. As far as a clutch goes, you should use a clutch for the year your flywheel is from, if there is any difference, it would be in the size if the disk.
the rear end gearing was the same in s4 and s5 (4.10), other than 88 verts (3.90) and GTUs (4.30). on the trans i know on the turbos the only diff is the o/d ratio, not to sure about na but it s probly the same.

pretty sure s4 and the s5 n/a's are the same. where you see the difference in the flywheels is because the different balance weights. looked into it, from the factory, the clutch part numbers are diff. but they are the same. all aftermarket manufacturers only make one for all the n/a fc's. haven't tried it myself though. will find out pretty soon though
