My employer has this shit called flex days where you contribute such an amount per pay period and over the course of a year, it equals out to being time off. For example, you pay like 30 bucks a pay period and over the year it equates to 5 days off. I like time off, but 30 bucks out of a check kind of sucks. I opted in anyway because another week of vacation is win. What do the peeps think?

hmmm, that one is new to me. We've got compressed time where I work, but that just means that you work longer days to accumulate enough time to so that you can take a couple days off later on.

Only options I have ever been given was 4x9 with a half day on friday (old job, summer only), 4x10, or 9x80 (9 work days, one day off other than sat. & sun. in a pay period), and then the usual 5x8. Still though, I can think of better things to do with $30 a paycheck rather than giving it back to my employer.

As in, you get $520 a paycheck (using your $52/day), then you give your employer $2 (or however much based on your time off request), probably out of a paycheck deduction so your after tax pay is $2 or whatever less than it normally would have been. Does this go directly to the employer into their pockets then?

ok 520 a paycheck, I pay through paycheck deductions 520 dollars throughout the year and basically buy time off at the same rate. It's BASICALLY just an excused to not have to use unscheduled or unapproved absences more or less.

There is an option around here called "Comp time" where you just don't get paid for some of the hours you work and they go towards time off.

That kind of sounds like this...

I'm doing my benefits and this shit is confusing. My employer does pay 3k of my medical benefits right off the back which is sweet. The best individual plan costs 6k a year though...

Dental is 600 a year and vision is 75.

At my job we get 14 hours a month for vacation and sick leave. And if you work overtime you have the choice to take the extra in your paycheck or take the time off. Say if you work 1 hour OT then you can take the cash or 1 1/2 hours off. Its pretty sweet.

I only get 1.6 days off a month, but that's sick days, vacation, site holidays etc. 160 hours a year. 4 weeks total off the bat, but 7 site holidays so in theory only 3 weeks and 3 days.

I just get paid leave, I don't need to buy it (like most people, I'm assuming). I can never use as much as I get, so there's no need for extra.

Plus if I'm using leave, that means I'm spending money (vacation, food, shopping, etc.). So more days off isn't necessarily a good thing for me.

I can sell back leave, which is awesome.
