Hey guys - what do you think about BMW's new 'style'?
I thought the new 7 was a $hit pile when I first saw it, but I saw a Black 745i on the highway yesterday.  It was next to a Lexus GS and it made the lexus look like old school design.  It's growing on me, but those eyebrow turn signals over the head lights HAVE to go.

Looking at the visual design aspects of the car BMW is taking a turn toward a somewhat more "concept car" look.  Several magazines and individuals have called this the "spaceship" look and made the claim that BMW is loosing it's edge in the design field.

Personally I feel that it is a progression and perhaps not one that will last as long as some others have but the potential is certainly there.  Also considering that BMW has invested a few billion dollars in re-designing their current cars and developing new ones to share these design elements the style will be around for a while.

The technological jump that this car takes over previous BMW's is nothing short of damn near insane.  Essentially every interior function of the car can be controlled through a single nob on the armrest and an LCD display on the dash.  As well the engine system in this car is re-engineered and it carries a 6 speed automatic transmission, the first in any production car.

All around it's a very good car.  Would I buy one over the previous e38 740i with sport package, definitely not.  Unfortunately I can afford neither so I will settle with driving the e38 from time to time and staring at the e65 on the dealer's lot.

Any word on a sport package on the new 7? *I think that the less feminine stance of the e38 is better looking, but with some new wheels, the e65 might be more desirable. *I've heard from various bmw people that the new model has sold twice the number of the old style in the first months of sales. (not total number of course)
Also, I don't think that the dash is as elegant as the e38. *The 2 pods are just stuck on there. *One more thing, the I-drive is confusing as hell!

I'm not sure if they have planned any sport package or not yet from the factory.  Hamann Motorsports had already come up with a full body kit and is making wheels that fit the car.  They've done at least an exhaust as well.  Problem is the body kit esentially makes the car one of the most expensive pieces of european rice out there.  It's sad...

As far as Hamman body kits go these days the majority of them might as well not be made.  Hamann has a history of several very competitive BMW modifications however these new body kits as well as false 4 tip exhausts for 318's are a sad showing of a once more impressive company.  The wheels still hold their own but I wouldn't put any order into Hamann for body kits right now.  Racing Dynamics on the other hand...
