91lx 05-04-2006, 11:39 PM Does painting an intercooler decrease its efficiency? rxtasy 05-05-2006, 12:14 AM i'd say probably no more than it does painting a copper radiator. but there's a reason they don't paint aluminum radiators. Tofuball 05-05-2006, 07:12 AM They paint the copper radiators because the copper corrodes easier Aluminum biulds up a substrate layer and then generally doesnt corrode. Certain types of paint conduct heat better then others :) fcdrifter13 05-05-2006, 10:41 AM YEp different paint for different apps. I have heard that they make a paint that accually helps heat disapation. Tofuball 05-05-2006, 11:12 AM They do. But better then paint, they have a ceramic based coating that vastly increases heat transfer. It also spreads on with a kind of 'rough' finish to aid in the transfer. You coat both sides of the IC in it, inside and outside. I have no experience with it though. High doller mods were never my thing :P fcdrifter13 05-05-2006, 02:28 PM A place does it around here and the reason I didnt say anything was because its not only expensive, but DAMN expensive. I think they quoted me a price for a 21x14x4.5 core and it was something like 800$. Say No To Pistons 05-06-2006, 05:10 PM does placing a painted black chicken net in front of a FMIC decrease its effiency a lot? noticably? MattG 05-07-2006, 01:56 AM hmmm good question 91lx 05-07-2006, 11:11 AM does placing a painted black chicken net in front of a FMIC decrease its effiency a lot? noticably? probably not as much as painting it i guess. Manntis 05-12-2006, 02:02 PM does placing a painted black chicken net in front of a FMIC decrease its effiency a lot? noticably? no. Ninjaracing13 06-28-2006, 03:23 AM better than turning a cat into chop suey, i've hit one cat and two rabbits since i put mine in socalbloater 07-21-2006, 03:13 PM Damn, that must smell like KFC...... MattG 07-21-2006, 08:59 PM Why do you wanna paint it? clean85owner 07-21-2006, 09:10 PM Stealth, I would assume. Say No To Pistons 07-21-2006, 09:49 PM ^ stealth... a better sleeper image. 95fd3s 07-22-2006, 09:22 PM I have seen people paint them before and I haven't heard any complaints.
