SpartanTS 11-25-2003, 09:10 AM What do you guys think of the Neon SRT-4 and the new upcoming Saturn Ion Redline? Me personally, if I can sucker my parents into gettin me one or the other, I may spring for one next year. BUT, what do you guys/girlz think about them?
The SRT-4 out the box is a damn monster, backfires like a blown V8, and can literally put you eyes in the back of your head without much modding. Plus a Stage 1 kit from Mopar that won't void the warranty. I don't know much about the redline yet, but I do know that it is pushing over 200HP with a 16k price tag. Any remarks?
HTM Impreza WRX 11-25-2003, 11:18 AM i know that you can walk out of the dealership w/ 300 hp and a warranty..that's cool
Chipster 11-25-2003, 02:55 PM SRT4's were retailing for 19k which is a damn good deal, but almost every place was putting a 4k+ dealer markup on them. Im not sure if they still have markups or not.
but I really like the neons. I think its a really good deal for the money. And being able to mod the car and still have a warranty is wonderful
Stegall 11-25-2003, 03:08 PM for the LOVE of god please dont get a damn saturn. they are GARBAGE plus they look like ass.
the neons are ok.. but ive had a vew neons as rental cars ( i knwo they were no where close to a srt ) but the quality and craftsmanship is terrible.
Cosby 11-25-2003, 03:18 PM yeah, my rental car had a lot of underside damage and when you'd jump it TERRIBLE sounds came from the suspension... wasn't too fast in autocross either (even without an intake box)
JPAccord 11-25-2003, 04:12 PM redline has 200 hp, 200 ft lbs of torque, i ddint get a srt4 cuz they lack in options, but theyre wicked fast.
HTM Impreza WRX 11-25-2003, 05:25 PM options are overrated
so are warranties
JPAccord 11-26-2003, 08:22 AM I dont think so, if im going to be in the car, i want everything to make it comfortable, and I also want the security of knowing that if anything breaks, its free to fix.
SpartanTS 11-26-2003, 09:09 AM I dont think so, if im going to be in the car, i want everything to make it comfortable, and I also want the security of knowing that if anything breaks, its free to fix.
That's not true with all warranties. And most of the time, the shit doesn't break til your warranty is up anyway.
Me personally, warranties don't bother me. If something goes wrong, and the warranty doesn't cover it, chances are I can fix it myself.
yea they have LSD, a sunroof, more horsepower and more colors for 2004. I think theyre changing the bodystyle soon so I dont want to buy a new car then a newer one come out 6 months later.
jetadrvr 11-26-2003, 04:56 PM autoweek said that hp is up 10 or 15 to for 2004,
JPAccord 11-27-2003, 08:38 AM sounds like theyve improved on them. Do they have leather?
SpartanTS 11-27-2003, 08:57 PM sounds like theyve improved on them. Do they have leather?
Do they have leather??? lol. You sound like you are a true luxury car lover. :)
I'm not against leather seats, but i'm not exactly for them either. In the summer, they are hot. In the winter, they aren't so bad if you have heated seats.
The SRT-4 will never have leater seats due to the fact that it will cost more than 22k if it came with leather, hence, it will probably never have that option.
Chipster 11-28-2003, 08:25 AM i dont like leather because it cracks and wears a lot faster than cloth seats
JPAccord 11-28-2003, 08:37 AM I like my leather, even with black on black in the summer here its not too bad, theres this little feature thing that i can roll my windows down with the remote before i get to the car, so it lets out the hot air. I dunno, leather is just more comfortable for me, and it can last a long time as long as you take proper care of it. I condition mine every other week.
HTM Impreza WRX 11-28-2003, 11:48 AM you wouldn't say that if you had a performance car. cloth > leather
JPAccord 11-28-2003, 09:38 PM Wouldnt say what? And ive had cloth before, I like leather better. I dont consider my car performance, but it moves when it needs to, and can hold its own against most of the cars on the road.
HTM Impreza WRX 11-29-2003, 03:41 AM no true performance car has a leather option. and most don't even have a sunroof option for chassis rigidity
Stegall 11-29-2003, 10:09 AM lol .... so a Supra isnt a true performance car? RX7 FD ? How about ferrarri? Thos have leather....
wait wait... WRX dosnt have leather.. OR a sunroof... Thats the ONLY true performance car.... only because you have one though of course :flipoff:
Cosby 11-29-2003, 11:13 AM true performance cars only have one seat :)
MAYBE two but certainly not FOUR
preludedude 11-29-2003, 11:27 AM true performance cars dont have back seats...much less 4 doors...
Mark

Stegall 11-29-2003, 10:55 PM exactly what oz said
HTM Impreza WRX 11-30-2003, 12:19 AM mclaren? pagani? konniegsegg? all those have no leather or sunroof...only one close is konniegsegg w/ a targa.
my point exactly...btw, any ferrari "performance" car came w/ carbon seats w/ cloth. same w/ porsche, etc
Frankin7 11-30-2003, 02:21 AM mclaren? pagani? konniegsegg? all those have no leather or sunroof...only one close is konniegsegg w/ a targa.

yupyup, thats true. IMO performance cars are anything other then a civic. :flipoff:
i miss my leather cobra r seats. they were awesome. very comfortable and light.
Stegall 11-30-2003, 09:24 AM so ferrari and porsche make some non performance cars?
i guess your right... 911 turbo s4... thats got leather seats and over 400 bhp at the wheels from a twin turbo charged engine... but.... its only a touring car right ? that what your saying ? designed for spirited drives to the super market ? Just because a car has leather or an open roof has NOTHING to do with it is to be considered a performance sports car... take a stock WRX, and then take one and cut a hole in the roof, and install leather seats in it, the damn thing isnt going to be any slower... if it is, the margin would be exceptionaly small....
SpartanTS 11-30-2003, 09:24 AM Wouldnt say what? And ive had cloth before, I like leather better. I dont consider my car performance, but it moves when it needs to, and can hold its own against most of the cars on the road.
Man he got quiet!
JPAccord 11-30-2003, 09:49 AM Wouldnt say what? And ive had cloth before, I like leather better. I dont consider my car performance, but it moves when it needs to, and can hold its own against most of the cars on the road.
I said i didnt consider my car a performance car, but it moves when it needs to. Then you went on with how leather and sunroof dont make for a sports car. I guess ill let you have your own opinion, even if it adds extra criteria to the "performance" car list after someone finds an exception. :)
JPAccord 11-30-2003, 09:55 AM mclaren? pagani? konniegsegg? all those have no leather or sunroof...only one close is konniegsegg w/ a targa.

Check out these sweet pics of a Mclaren F1, taking particular note to the "cloth" interior.

So yeah, come up with some more criteria.
SpartanTS 11-30-2003, 10:10 AM Well, I was talking about cars like the SRT, WRX, and the like. I don't kno where these high end exotics came from.
All in all, your tastes are different. You drive a Semi Luxury Coupe, so obviously your taste is different from a lot of us here. I'm not a big fan of leather. Don't know why, but cloth is my thing. Ne way, whatever floats your boatz.
JPAccord 11-30-2003, 11:18 AM Yeah, i was more directing that towards Impreza, but im glad we can all have opinions without getting pissed off.
JPAccord 11-30-2003, 11:23 AM Cant leave out domestics, what about Camaros, Corvettes, and Mustangs, with leather option. Performance or no?

good pic JP...
maybe Jon should stick his knowledge where his mouth is..
Frankin7 11-30-2003, 06:51 PM those are some nice McLaren pics.

now aren't you mr. knowledge....put your money where you mouth is...bring it to a road course.
now seeing there is $250,000 in options on the "luxury" model...there is a leather option.
Stegall 12-01-2003, 12:21 AM now aren't you mr. knowledge....put your money where you mouth is...bring it to a road course.
are you challangeing me to a race in my car versus your car??
haha couldnt take being wrong so you had to throw the old " my cars faster then your car" shit cus you have the wrx... blah blah me and every one else knows the wrx would beat my 240... by no means are you some expert road course driver jsut cause you have that car... i probably have twice as much auto X seat time as you.. I mean hell.. the tiburon didnt even work half the time... blown brake lines cus you let them rub the struts, or half ass shitty shark coilovers banging around, to the finial blow being the broke tranny that lasted almost a month... dont be a dip shit jon... just because you have the wrx dosn't make you some awesome driver. I like you jsut fine, and its fun to hang out with you, but your way to damn cocky some times.
heres a hug man... get some love :grouphug:
haha road course? when have YOU been on a road course that didnt have road signs ?? Last i checked you thought downtown saluda was a drag strip.... :blue: :tibby:
gsxman 12-01-2003, 03:12 AM Damn, noone gets along on this board.
Cosby 12-01-2003, 08:40 AM its all in good fun :)
Cosby 12-01-2003, 08:41 AM ...except when you actually never want to see the person again for the rest of your life. Then its not in good fun. It isn't even in bad fun. It isn't fun at all in fact.
Cosby 12-01-2003, 08:41 AM I have new stuff in my signature
JPAccord 12-01-2003, 09:45 AM whats coming soon?
SpartanTS 12-01-2003, 10:36 AM I can't wait to meet all you guys/girlz in person. :)
HTM Impreza WRX 12-01-2003, 12:03 PM me and allen get along just fine.
reason i said road course, is because neither of us have experience on that. I really doubt you have more seat time than i do at autoX. I've attended quite a few, and even my car was down, chip was nice enough to let me autoX his car.
HighTachPres 12-02-2003, 02:06 PM sigh, tibby, why are you always starting a mess?
Cosby 12-02-2003, 02:30 PM a blurry piece of metal is coming soon... duh :)
JPAccord 12-02-2003, 03:53 PM oh my mistake.. how stupid of me.
HTM Impreza WRX 12-03-2003, 01:37 AM sigh, tibby, why are you always starting a mess?
who said i was starting a mess?
Cosby 12-03-2003, 08:43 AM well, it is 4 pages lol
HighTachPres 12-03-2003, 11:33 PM "no true performance car has a leather option. and most don't even have a sunroof option for chassis rigidity"
miata, rx7, supra, lamborghini, SL500, M5
sure i agree that a TRUE sports car doesn't have leather or a sunroof.... but they can have options. gez
