Me and a friend have some vacation time to take, so we're thinking about taking a trip 4 to 5 days somewhere. At first we were probably going to Houston (driving) to pick up a blower, (I'm not trusting somebody spending that much money on the internet) but the blower sold... Just random ideas to consider:
-I've been to Texas before (dallas / ft worth) and wasn't overly impressed, but of course I didn't do anything while there.
-The beach is out of the question, the season sucks, unless we go to FL... I would like to go back to the gulf coast.
-I'm not traveling north--Too cold, and don't like the assholes, unless it's NYC (I've never been before.)
-If it's in NC or SC, I've probably been there and done that. I have never stayed in Atlanta though, I thought it was a really long drive, but I can be in Charlotte in 3 hours... so considering yzf/2gr saying it's 3- 3 1/2 hours, that sounds good. Charlotte really isn't out of the question, not sure if there's much to do there.
So TFL tour guides... guide me.
Vert8813B 10-24-2008, 03:11 PM I generally don't think a country boy with an attitude would survive in NYC. So with that said, I suggest you go to NYC.
rtryb2200 10-24-2008, 03:17 PM We're not all a bunch of assholes in the North
Vert8813B 10-24-2008, 03:20 PM Not in your part of the North. We're all assholes in the Northeast. Especially Irish New Englanders. Zero should go to Boston and go drinking at the Cask 'n Flagon and tell them how much the Boston Red Sox and Patriots suck.
We're not all a bunch of assholes in the North
Been as far as pennsylvania... most northerners are assholes, and for some reason they wear jogging pants a lot. I don't like that.
wotnartd 10-24-2008, 03:43 PM We're not all a bunch of assholes in the North
And we have good beer. And snowmobiles. And ice fishing. And the best REAL trophy bucks.
Wisconsin: come for the beer, leave for the winter.
wotnartd 10-24-2008, 03:51 PM I hate the cold.
It's not THAT cold.
wonner 10-24-2008, 04:04 PM Go to Florida.
aznpoopy 10-24-2008, 04:11 PM NY/NJ is pretty cold now. it's hitting 30s 40s in the late evening/early morning. if you hate cold, come in spring time or something.
wonner 10-24-2008, 04:14 PM Who in their right mind would want to go to NJ?
1revnrex 10-24-2008, 04:48 PM Florida for the win. Its like going to NY without all the snow.
Vert8813B 10-24-2008, 04:57 PM But with 2x the jews.
2ndGen.Rocket 10-24-2008, 05:27 PM Atlanta is a lot of fun, but if you plan on going out it can get pretty pricey. I would suggest staying somewhere in Midtown if you do come. Savannah is also pretty sweet.
Queen 10-24-2008, 05:37 PM What's awesome about Savannah? I've been wanting to go down there (with the incredibly optimistic assumption that I would have the free time) but I wasn't sure it was worth it
Steel 10-24-2008, 05:55 PM +! 1 on going to any irish bar off Lansdowne street/ Fenway area and spouting off about the superiority of the Yankees.
Turbo II Rotor 10-24-2008, 06:03 PM Who in their right mind would want to go to NJ?
Half of NY every weekend in the summer.
Vert8813B 10-24-2008, 06:31 PM I'm from Upstate NY and hate going to NYC and NJ. Honestly, when you leave you are covered with a layer of city greasyness or NJ industrialism. It's kind of gross.
Vert8813B 10-24-2008, 06:36 PM +! 1 on going to any irish bar off Lansdowne street/ Fenway area and spouting off about the superiority of the Yankees.
I'd pay top dollar to see the ensuing ass kicking. Some of those guys are big big boys and some are irish thugs from South Bo Town.

It's really pretty down there, lots of old antebellum homes, lots of nice scenery, some cool historic stuff. Pick me up on the way down and I'll show you around.
Vert8813B 10-24-2008, 06:39 PM But seriously, what about taking a boat or plane to the Bahamas? Plane ride is probably like 1 hour max for you and dirt cheap.
Charleston isn't bad....or better yet Hilton Head, esp if you have $$$
I stayed a little while in charleston summer before this previous one that's slipped away from us... the downtown area was pretty cool, but the entire city had this horrible smell the locals blamed on the factories down by the water.
Isle of Palms had this incredible infestation of sand fleas too.
I spent a week and a half in the very southern part of GA for work this past May... Not in Savannah, but I'm sure it's similar... I'll probably go with Charlotte or Atlanta, seems like I go to greensboro a lot.

Yeah, don't mess with the Southie boys.
Turbo II Rotor 10-24-2008, 10:04 PM Come up north, we have Wawa.

wonner 10-24-2008, 10:23 PM Man, I REALLY miss Wawa...Tastykake is a close second.
BTW, Lemonade Tea > Peach
Alex-7 10-25-2008, 01:20 AM fuckin' A I miss wawa too!
Come to Kansas city zero, I'll put you up and show ya a good time...!
You can shoot straight home on I-70 to st. Louis then 64 to va.
wotnartd 10-25-2008, 06:30 AM If you went to Chicago, there'd be lots to see, as well. I'd travel there, provided I was off work. And lots of museums, architecture, its uses Wisconsin as a State Park.

STL isn't a bad idea... probably cold there right now though.
Vert8813B 10-25-2008, 11:31 AM Niggra Abundance in STL. You could see Nelly.

yea, Chicago is awesome, but I think it's too much for a 5 day trip.. otherwise that would be my recommendation
Niggra Abundance in STL. You could see Nelly.
Lol, I think I still know every word to every song off of his first album. One of the best albums, ever.
I was never scared of black people period, until I spent a week and a half in Albany, GA. That was more to do with the severe poverty situation rather than the color anyway. I had no prejudice towards anyone whatsoever... but that was seriously the most segregated thing I've ever seen, and they did NOT like white people. It was really like something out of a movie, I was in disbelief. It was the first time I'd seen poverty to that level, and I can say it changed who I am. If any of us had to live through what I saw there, we certainly wouldn't be who we are now... I'm sure it's nothing in comparison to some of the shit in Atlanta, bfe Alabama, etc.
I'm not going to chicago, I HATE THE COLD. It can be 60 degrees and my feet will get so cold they get numb. :(
Vert8813B 10-25-2008, 02:02 PM Well tell us some of your interests or what have you to give us a better idea of where you should go to.

Can we change your title to Francis?
Alex-7 10-25-2008, 04:31 PM stl isn't cold yet I'd bet.

WaWa subs are possibly the best drunk food ever
Cosby 10-26-2008, 02:42 AM stl is cold in the mornings (high 30s) and it is awful. I hate saint louis with a passion. The only good thing about stl is the budweiser is mega fresh.
Charlotte is worthless and boring.
Savannah is fun for St pattys and not much else
Atlanta is mediocre. I'd go with someone who knows the area though. I've been a bunch of times for trade shows and still don't know the good places to go.
Asheville is kind of cool but you better be the outdoor type and appreciate music. It'd be fun to get a cabin this time of year and check out the leaves and shit. The green river race is November 1. It'll be pretty intense this year.
I live on folly beach which is 2 islands over from isle of palms. Worse than sand fleas, Isle of palms is infested with old ass snobs. Should have gone to folly. Charleston smells like shit because it's barely above the water and drains horribly. The paper mill doesn't help too much either. CHS is fun for halloween.
If you haven't been, go to new orleans. You may even be able to take a train.
If you want to be a real man, go to moab.
2ndGen.Rocket 10-26-2008, 10:13 AM The only thing better than fresh Budweiser is no Budweiser.
BadDude22 10-26-2008, 11:50 AM if you haven't been to Chicago, you need to go. Best city in the world
Vert8813B 10-26-2008, 01:36 PM I have never been to Chicago. Chicago style pizza and the ensuing diarrhea made me not want to go.
I kinda want to go to Lincoln Nebraska for some reason though...
I think I'm going to take a month off of work, and go stay with random people from TFL and shadow you. See how you live, go to work with you, etc... and video a documentary. That'd be interesting.
Vert8813B 10-27-2008, 11:41 AM That's how cheap pornos start out...

LOL.. you won't get diarrhea from pizza..
Lincoln Nebraska? Wow, I think that has to be the most boring place in the entire world.

His posts are typically composed of unorganized and irrelevant junk... maybe pizza gives him brain diarrhea? I'm not sure, but really, your best bet is to pay no mind to whatever gibberish he's spouting for the day.
Vert8813B 10-27-2008, 12:49 PM They have corn. I like corn.

You close to the level of asshurt that kept you away for a year? God, I hope so...

That's obvious... what was your weightloss thread again, 5'5" and 250 or something?
I'm coming here after asking on the VWVortex Health and Fitness forum. People there tend to be idiots but hey, they own euros and I did too.
Ok so lemme make this as basic as possible...
-I am about to turn 21
-I am 5'6-5'7
-I weigh 220 lbs
-I want to be a New York State Trooper (help me out and I will fix your tickets! )
-I smoke cigarettes (and I know most will say to quit but I think I can get in shape without it)
-I binge drink on the weekends (a 12 pack friday, saturday and like 4-6 on sunday. I think I will switch to liquor and coke zero or something so I can still get drunk and not consume as many calories)
-New York State Trooper written test is coming up in January-February 2008. Pending I do well, the physical portion could be shortly thereafter. You need to be able to run a 1.5 Miles in 12:18 (10 something after the academy) Do about 33 Push ups in a single effort and like 40 Sit Ups in a minute
-I need to get into decent to good shape by January 2008.
What I ask from you...
-Dieting Ideas
-Supplement Ideas
-Prayers
-Any other help you can provide.
I thank you in advance!
This was my original post on VWVortex. I started exercising Tuesday and hit the treadmil and tried to follow the training guidelines on the State Police website. Start off with a 2 mile walk in 32 minutes it says and do some situps and push ups. I did this and felt pretty good. I got some MuscleTech Hydroxycut and it seems to be helping. I am consuming a gallon or more of water a day. I need to be 18.9% body fat by the time of the physical test.
Please don't be stupid like VW owners or else I may have to kill myself.
Oh, 220... my bad stumpy...
DarkAngelKamui 10-27-2008, 01:46 PM lol, if you do decide to head north and happen to blow through DC/MD/VA, let me or Tofuball know. We'll hang out with ya. (or I would, at least) :D

I'm only 3-3 1/2 hours from DC. I'd actually like to come spend a weekend and check out some shit during the day, maybe see what the night life is like.

Call or PM a brotha, then. I'm sure I could show you around, given you already have an idea of where you'd like to go.
I haven't checked out downtown D.C. in years for the most part, so I'd be a shitty tour guide and more like a companion visitor. Only usually head around to Dupont for some new vinyl records.
As for nightlife, I'm definitely more knowledgeable in that regard. Adams Morgan will do you well enough.
I went up to a land rover dealership in fairfax to buy a car with a friend a while ago... D.C. = $$$... even the ghetto people drink starbucks.
DarkAngelKamui 10-27-2008, 02:27 PM lol, part of the reason why I don't go there that often. Other half is me just not being a big fan of living inner city anywhere (even if I grew up in N.E. DC).
But yeah, if you wanna come through sometime I'll try to take you places that are relatively low cost. :D
