We'll see how well this one works out. Also, please note that I have not read any of these (at least not as of yet) so I won't be able to tell you whether they are any good or not.
The Serial Killer Files
Hollywood’s make-believe maniacs like Jason, Freddy, and Hannibal Lecter can’t hold a candle to real life monsters like John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and scores of others who have terrorized, tortured, and terminated their way across civilization throughout the ages. Now, from the much-acclaimed author of Deviant, Deranged, and Depraved, comes the ultimate resource on the serial killer phenomenon.
Rigorously researched and packed with the most terrifying, up-to-date information, this innovative and highly compelling compendium covers every aspect of multiple murderers—from psychology to cinema, fetishism to fan clubs, “trophies” to trading cards.

How The Mind Works...
Why do fools fall in love? Why does a man’s annual salary, on average, increase $600 with each inch of his height? When a crack dealer guns down a rival, how is he just like Alexander Hamilton, whose face is on the ten-dollar bill? How do optical illusions function as windows on the human soul? Cheerful, cheeky, occasionally outrageous MIT psychologist Steven Pinker answers all of the above and more in his marvelously fun, awesomely informative survey of modern brain science. Pinker argues that Darwin plus canny computer programs are the key to understanding ourselves–but he also throws in apt references to Star Trek, Star Wars, The Far Side, history, literature, W. C. Fields, Mozart, Marilyn Monroe, surrealism, experimental psychology, and Moulay Ismail the Bloodthirsty and his 888 children.
If How the Mind Works were a rock show, tickets would be scalped for $100. This book deserved its spot as Number One on bestseller lists. It belongs on a short shelf alongside such classics as Darwin’s Dangerous Idea: Evolution and the Meanings of Life, by Daniel C. Dennett, and The Moral Animal: Why We Are the Way We Are: The New Science of Evolutionary Psychology, by Robert Wright. Pinker’s startling ideas pop out as dramatically as those hidden pictures in a Magic Eye 3D stereogram poster, which he also explains in brilliantly lucid prose. –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Depending on how this goes, I will post more, if of course, there is any interest.
Wow, 15 views and 1 download. Guess this forum loves reading, eh?
$100T2 06-11-2007, 09:10 PM I downloaded the serial killer book, my GF will love that.
She likes serial killers, eh? How... interesting.
I'm not knocking her, I find them interesting as well. The depths of the human mind can be pretty twisted but I believe that it's one of the best ways to understand human nature.

Secrets Of A Super Hacker
Once more, Loompanics publishes something other houses wouldn't: a guide to violating computer security. Covering hacking scenarios ranging from the merely mischievous to the criminal, the super hacker known as the Knightmare gives step-by-step instructions in meaningful hacking from a personal computer. Fortunately, he also includes a section on state and federal computer laws, allowing potential hackers to be cognizant of the sanctions they risk with any particular project. Appendixes offer an array of technical explanations and tips for understanding database and system structures; tips cover password divination and searching strategies; and a glossary, besides explaining terms likely to be encountered in any particular documentation being hacked, enhances the hacker's ability to share experiences and tips. As science outstrips society's control of information, systems of secretkeeping proliferate maddeningly. Yet with this book, the keyboard jockey can enter all sorts of "secure" systems, databases, and records; and a hacker-security chapter explains both why hacking is a valuable and useful activity and--equally important because entering and altering systems without clearance is generally illegal--how to avoid getting caught.

Minds And Computers: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is currently the subject of intense debate. This is a collection of classical and contemporary readings, with an editor's introduction and an up to date reading list, which provides the reader with some guidelines for considering this topic. It disputes whether `artificial' intelligence is a contradiction in terms, and asks how far it is possible for a computer to imitate the human mind.
Synopsis
Is 'artificial intelligence' a contradiction in terms? Could computers (in principle) model every aspect of the mind, including logic, language, and emotion? What of the more brain-like, connectionist computers: could they really understand, even if digital computers cannot? This collection of classic and contemporary readings (which includes an editor's introduction and an up-to-date reading list) provides a clearly signposted pathway into hotly disputed philosophical issues at the heart of artificial intelligence.

I was referring to their case studies actually. Their lives are very well documented and the events that form them are so extreme that it sheds insight on what is involved in shaping the average Joe.

Heard of a new book. "Five Minds For The Future" from Dr. Howard Gardner
Specific books are harder to find than music or videos. You can make requests, just don't expect much in the ways of results.
czarofzar 07-19-2007, 09:00 PM Ah, didn't know. I think you mean I should try to ask in general topics. I like to ask you to forget that last request and if you can, find me a few books in 'getting into shape'.
