I'm looking for any and all info on turbos you can give me.

Thinking about putting a small, fast spooling, reliable turbo on my snowmobile and need to know of some good ones that fit that bill and will build ~ 12 pounds of boost.

BTW, put it here since its for a sled instead of in general for a car ;)

I know nothing of sleds.

What is the engine CC? Two stroke? What kind of room are we playing with?

Also,

Read this book:

It's not the end all info-tome of turbos, but it's a good start.

its been either bigger motor, turbo, or both since january.

Almost had myself convinced to buy another sled there for a while, but I would rather drop a couple thousand into this current sled then buy another one that isn't exactly what I want.

Poopz convinced me to try and junkyard a turbo setup instead of dropping $5,000 on a turbo kit from some local places. That is why I need to get info on em.

I know nothing of sleds.not many people do :bigthumb:

700cc two stroke, twin.

What kind of room are we playing with?
pics from when I piped it last year:

yes, its carbed. I would either pressurize the current airbox, or try and rig up some different kind of intake.

Have you tried looking for a forum for them? I'm not sure if they'd have any or not...worth a try though

hah.

I'm a member of several snowmobile forums.

But the few turbo sled guys are rather tight lipped about their setups and all of them say "just buy a kit"

edit:

and why not learn about turbos from people I would hope would have a bit of knowledge of them?

specifically he is looking for a small quick spooling turbo that was available in a production car that can (thus) be found in a junkyard.

The turbo off the 1.6 Capri would probably fit the ticket. They were pretty reliable.

the next problem,

how the fuck would I lubricate it.

The added weight of its own oil tank, cooler, lines, pump, etc... fuck.

oil pressure sensor?

its a two stroke, the only oil that is in the engine is the oil that is mixed with the gas.

premix! woot FC

turbo: 1.6 capri might be too old. ideally it'd be a turbo from the mid to late 90s. i.e. you can find one in a yard or on a forum, and it wont be rusted out to shit. how about the smaller stock turbo on the FD? the turbo needs to be really tiny! .7L engine!

turbo:
-fd small sequential? $??? (saw a used pair s&l, no shaft play for $300 on 7club)
-sr20det stock turbo? $400ish on 240sx forums.
-1.6L capri? couldn't find one on the net.
-1.9L vw golf? about $300-650 in the yards across the USA.
-you may want to go brand new on the turbo.

oil cooler: used FC3S oil cooler $50 //rx7club
oil pump: new electric oil pump $40-140
oil resovoir: DIY $100
intercooler: used FD3S stock i/c $40 //rx7club
bov = whatever you want. $100-200.
fuel = carbed? eek. $???
manifold = ??? $???
exhaust/piping/lines/fittings etc. = DIY $???

am i missing anything? everyone feel free to chime in...

looks like some boys in utah are running the Aerocharger 50 Series Turbocharger on their 600's.

I belive the Aero charger turbos come self-lubricated :)

So that would probably be why.

Never used one myself :p

Anyone know the url for the aerocharger homepage?

All I'm getting searching is shit from NASIOC and harley forums. Also, the Bell Engineering Group (http://www.bellengineering.net/index.html) webpage doesn't have shit on the aerocharger even though it seems they are the people that build em :dunno:

EDIT thought it was 4 stroke.

I would try and find a used self llubricated turbo. The smallest one I can think of is one off a mitsu diesel engine. Like the ones that come in some of there older cars.

you can find a very small turbo off a smart car. i looked at one for a briggs 20hp engine. im not sure how they lubricate i couldn't see any lines in the pictures i looked at. we get snow here maybe 1 day a year the closest thing ive seen to that locally is a turbo bombardier ds650.

too small. they only make 60'ish hp. you probably make double that NA with a 700.
