And people are surprised by this, why?

Hmm. Let's take a simple look at the oil market. The prices you are charged for gas today are based on what people think gas prices will be next month.

So, let's say they guess it will be $60 a barrel. They charge you the equivalent of $60 a barrel. But then, when they actually pay $40 a barrel, where does the extra $20 go? Into their pockets.

I hear talk about insurance reform, mass tort limits... Fuck that.

Let's reform oil pricing. If they can post $10.7 billion in profits, then they have enough money to start buying the oil first and charging us second.

Cocksuckers.

They really took America for a damn joyride this year....

Only takes one stupid rumor or two that gas'll run out to get people scrambling to the pumps....

Was it just a coincidence that gas prices started going up when Bush took office? I'm not trying to theorize here. I want to know what you guys think.

I remember buying my car in early 2001 a little after Bush took office and then gas prices began to skyrocket.

Well, there really isn't any price gouging. It makes sense if you think about it really. Say oil costs $40 a barrel and the oil companies have a typical 40% markup. Now, oil costs go up to $80 a barrel and the oil companies still have a 40% markup. They are operating on the same profit margin but would be posting bigger profits due to more money being generated per barrel. If they weren't greedy scumbags they would see prices at $80 a barrel and only mark it up 30%. But, it's a business and they can more or less do whatever they want.

They are still a bunch of fucks though.
