Those assholes just got lucky that the car split behind the seats, and that the telephone pole didn't go through the cabin. Nothing is safe at 150mph, let alone a fucking Ferrari. BATMAN 03-16-2006, 09:39 AM The mystery surrounding the crash last week of a $1 million Ferrari Enzo thickened this week. Sheriff's department detectives said they believe a magazine clip from a gun discovered near the wreckage was connected to the crash and that they plan to interview an unnamed person who they believe was in the car with Swedish game-machine entrepreneur Stefan Eriksson. The crash on Pacific Coast Highway was noticed by a leading Scottish bank, which informed police investigators that it might be the owner of the destroyed car. Detectives were trying to figure out why another exotic car in Eriksson's extensive collection, a Mercedes SKR, was listed as stolen by New Scotland Yard in London, sheriff's department Sergeant Phil Brooks said. The totaled Ferrari was one of two Enzos that Eriksson brought into the United States from England along with the Mercedes SKR, Brooks said. Detectives concluded the destroyed vehicle did not have appropriate papers and was not "street legal" for driving in California, he said. Detectives have been trying to sort out what happened on the morning of Feb. 22 when Eriksson's Enzo — one of 400 in existence — smashed into a telephone pole. Eriksson told deputies he had been the passenger and a man he knew only as "Dietrich" had been behind the wheel. Detectives have been openly skeptical of the story, noting that Eriksson had a bloody lip and that they found blood only on the driver's-side air bag. Brooks said detectives had called Eriksson in for another interview. The security guard at Eriksson's gated Bel Air estate said the entrepreneur declined to comment. An attorney who represented Eriksson in past civil matters, Ashley Posner, also declined to comment this week. Brooks said that the car was traveling 262 km/h when it crashed, far faster than the 195 km/h initially reported. The Ferrari hit a bump in the road and was sent airborne into the power pole, Brooks said. Brooks said investigators were examining whether "an associate'' of Eriksson's might have been present. They also were trying to determine whether the recovered gun clip was connected to him. The sergeant declined to say more about the gun clip or elaborate on the roles of the Scottish bank and New Scotland Yard in the case. The question of whether Eriksson was driving is key to the case. Eriksson was found by deputies to be intoxicated at the time of the crash. His blood alcohol level was 0.09, above the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle. Sheriff's officials are trying to confirm early witness reports that the Ferrari might have been drag racing with another car. FSURedFD 03-17-2006, 12:20 AM It definitely sounds to me like he was driving the car and is making up a fictional character. BATMAN 04-10-2006, 10:38 PM The Swedish video game entrepreneur involved in the 162-mph crash of a rare Ferrari has been arrested on suspicion of grand theft, officials said. Detectives concluded that the wrecked Enzo Ferrari -- one of only 400 made -- along with a Mercedes and another Enzo Ferrari in Stefan Eriksson's collection were actually owned by British financial institutions, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore. Eriksson apparently brought the cars to Los Angeles when he moved from Britain last year, but the financial institutions that held the titles said his payments had lapsed. Authorities have said the $600,000 Mercedes had been reported to London's Scotland Yard. The Ferrari was worth more than $1 million. All three cars have been confiscated, and Eriksson, 44, was arrested at his Bel-Air home Saturday, Whitmore said. He is being held without bail because U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement put a hold him, the Los Angeles Times reported in Monday editions. The Ferrari crash spun into a web of mystery when Eriksson told authorities that he was only a passenger in the car and that the driver was a German acquaintance he knew only as Dietrich. He said Dietrich ran into the hills, but a search by sheriff's deputies turned up no one. Officials have questioned Eriksson's story, noting that only the driver's side air bag had blood on it and Eriksson had a cut lip. The front of the red Ferrari crumpled when it slammed into a poll on the Pacific Coast Highway on February 21. Eriksson was an executive with Gizmondo, a European video game company that filed for bankruptcy.
