Today, I got my boss pissed. Not by my work performance, just that our personalities clashed. During the course of our argument, he told me not to question him and to be a yes and no man. I told him it is impossible for me to do that and I'm looking for someone with the balls to fire me. Yes, I dared him.

Just prior of that, he just got back from court because he was bounced from a bar. Since there was a victim involved, he didn't get his way of finding a settlement. So basically, he got his ass kicked and can't get any compensation without a lot of effort.

Sounds like it might have been worth it.

In most industrialized nations an employer can't fire an emplyee for a clash of personalities; they have to establish poor performance and prove that you were given first a verbal warning, then a written one, before firing you - and with time between each step for you to correct your actions.

In south carolina you can fire anyone for anything unless it is related to race, religion, etc. Basically, if you felt so inclined you can fire every last person whose name begins with a B because your aunt B was mean to you when you were little and there isn't anything the employee can do beyond draw unemployment.

I'm pretty confused about the whole getting bounced situation though.

I got fired for "insubordination" once, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me....the guy was a micro-managing asshole and I ended up finding a better job (much better) with considerably better pay to boot
