I was bored at work, so I took the forktruck and went to go drive around outside and headed to the parking lot, which has a decent sized hill. I drive up to the top of the hill, turn around and floor it before the hill starts and put it in neutral. The forktruck gains speed and not knowing that there is a bump at the bottom of the hill, I ramp it and get off the ground maybe a few inches. I was sure I broke something on the forktruck, but the only thing broken seems to be my back. 7 hours later and it still hurts. Hopefully I get a raise tomorrow.

u may end up needing to see a doctor. this could have serious consequences. the really bad part about it is to keep it a secret worker comp can't pay for it and in the long run, it may end up coming out anyway. if ya know what i mean. maybe ur regular medical insurance will cover it and maybe u could claim u jumped from some fairly high distance at home or something, depending on what the problem is and u can figure out something else that would cause it. i really hope it gets better. it would suck to loose ur job over some stupid shit like that. and i appologize if it sounds like i'm being mean.

why do you have to scare me like that?

I didn't purposely go over the fn bump. I didn't even know it was there.

wasn't really meant to scare, just wanted u to be aware that this little adventure COULD have serious effects. i pray that it wont be anything serious and it'll just be a wakeup call.

one place i worked, anyone that would need to be on a forklift had to have a permit. they gave a class on safety and stuff and showed videos on shit that COULD happen. and i know first hand on how quick one will turn over. i rounded a turn once and wasn't really going that fast but i straightened up alittle quick and the inside wheels came up off the floor. that was some scarry shit. so yeah, those things aren't something to play around on. and u can forget about stopping one on a wet floor.

You didn't purposely go over the bump, but you DID purposely go racing down a hill on company property. Anything could have happened.

<sees this conversation devolving into a street racing/drifting argument: "There was no one around - I know how to control my forklift!">

yeah, well, it's totally my fault that it happened. i don't see myself doing this crap again anytime soon.

I had to go through forktruck training too. All of the fulltime ppl there have as well. Now, they are hiring some temps and when they drive one, yeah......

Yeah, where I work theres too many multi-million dollar machines around to drag-race them, so instead we race the 6 wheeled deisel golf-carts. Ahh, tax payers money at it's best. Not as fun as ramping HMMVW's but we got in trouble when the powers that be heard about this kick ass movie someone was making. Damn security leaks...

Nice ramp, too bad about your back.

i am a forklift service technician.... i work on them everyday. sometimes they come in the shop with some hard to figure out problems/damage, which im sure was caused by something other than it was designed for.
this thread gave me a pretty good chuckle. thanks!
