rodney87 10-06-2007, 04:39 PM My friend found a new razor sitting in a parking lot the other day and since my phone is a junk pile he gave it to me. Theres no names, numbers or anything on the phone and I think the origional owner must have switched service on it already cause you cant make any calls. If I walk into the store and tell them I found it and want it activated with my number do you think they'd take it away? Or should I make up a story like "got it on e-bay, want to change it over to my number"? rtryb2200 10-06-2007, 05:09 PM I'd say I bought it on ebay...then if it is stolen or lost you won't be to blame TJGoSurf 10-06-2007, 05:58 PM Open up the inside does it have a sim card or any other markings? it could be one of those pay as you go phones. rodney87 10-06-2007, 06:04 PM Open up the inside does it have a sim card or any other markings? it could be one of those pay as you go phones. My friend already looked for a card so he could give it to his girlfriend but theres nothing. No marks (besides vin numbers) and no places for cards. TJGoSurf 10-06-2007, 06:28 PM If no markings it is probably one of those pay as you go, you may be able to use it. But in the end its either verizon or sprint. rodney87 10-06-2007, 06:31 PM I'm already using verison, so thats no problem. BadDude22 10-06-2007, 07:31 PM its cool, you can admit to us you stole it Manntis 10-06-2007, 07:55 PM Could be a CDMA phone, hence no SIM card. But if the ESN has been reported lost/stolen, it won't matter what story you tell them. They'll take the phone from you upon attempted activation or reprogramming to Pay-as-you-go. unless they're sloppy. Eple 10-06-2007, 09:26 PM Just as an FYI the ESN is assigned to that mobile number. Soo, if it's a half decent company, they should be able to check the ESN number in their system and realize it's connected to a number that's been reported as stolen. Definitely sounds like a CDMA phone. Take the back cover off of it, and look at the sticker that has the model, manufacturer, etc. etc. It should have "ESN: XXXXXXXXXX." If you do wanna swap it, keep it for a while (like over a month) then try it, OR search around on the net and hack a new ESN onto it. I work for a mobile company, and do all the ESN swapping for their CDMA network. We get a huge alert when ever a stolen ESN is found/raised. rodney87 10-06-2007, 09:55 PM model: V3m motorola FCC ID: xxxxxxxxx EE3 made in china DEC: xxxxxxxxxxxx HEX: xxxxxxxxxxxx I dont see ESN or CDMA anywhere on the sticker. If I just tell the people I found it what are the chances they'd let me use it? preludedude 10-06-2007, 11:21 PM new razors dont cost shit anyway new...go buy a new one Mark Eatmyclutch 10-06-2007, 11:40 PM Maybe it's one of those buy one get three free razor phone deals and the original owner just didn't give a fuck since he knows that he has two more to fuck around with haha Animal 10-07-2007, 12:16 AM DEC: xxxxxxxxxxxx HEX: xxxxxxxxxxxx Right there's your ESN, or Electronic Serial Number. It's the cellphone equivalent to the MAC address on your ethernet/wifi card. Used in the key generation for CDMA service. Given there as a decimal and hex value. Hex is what the phone network uses, decimal is usually what places use for the phone's serial number. rodney87 10-07-2007, 12:31 AM So considering most everyone around here is pretty lazy I've got about a 50/50 shot. I wont shed a tear if they take it back. A free phone is a free phone, although it is pink :gay2: Eple 10-07-2007, 01:07 AM So considering most everyone around here is pretty lazy I've got about a 50/50 shot. I wont shed a tear if they take it back. A free phone is a free phone, although it is pink :gay2: Just embrace your inner femininity. Give it a shot and see what happens:bigthumb: Manntis 10-07-2007, 09:07 AM model: V3m motorola FCC ID: xxxxxxxxx EE3 made in china DEC: xxxxxxxxxxxx HEX: xxxxxxxxxxxx I dont see ESN or CDMA anywhere on the sticker. If I just tell the people I found it what are the chances they'd let me use it? If it's a V3m, it's a CDMA frequency. The V3m is the successor to the V3c, also CDMA, just with the ability to store and play music. As you've already been told, the ESN is the DEC number and its HEX equivalent, your phone's version of a VIN. Typically when someone loses a cellphone, or has it stolen, they call their carrier and report it. The ESN is then flagged. When you activate a phone, the dealer reports the ESN to the network. If it shows up on the flagged list, that phone is confiscated and the original owner is informed of the whereabouts of his/her phone for retrieval. 2ndGen.Rocket 10-07-2007, 10:06 AM You are trying to activate a pink razor? Seriously, they give away razors for free, they are garbage phones. If you sign up for a new plan, or a continued plan, they will give you one. Terrh 10-07-2007, 11:34 AM OR, youc ould be like "hey, I found this phone, do you know who it's rightful owner is?" I'm sure they'd probably like it back. wotnartd 10-07-2007, 11:52 AM You are trying to activate a pink razor? Seriously, they give away razors for free, they are garbage phones. If you sign up for a new plan, or a continued plan, they will give you one. I don't know, AllTel's really trying to hock Samsung right now. I wish they'd start selling phones with real antennas again... service sucks without them... not like they help a ton, but they don't hurt, that's for sure. TJGoSurf 10-07-2007, 11:56 AM My samsung was a beast. I dropped it, by accident, a few times from heights higher than 15' onto gravel. Charged it once every two days. And got service every where. This RAZR should DIAF. Pele 10-07-2007, 12:21 PM If you really want to use it, just have Verizon activate it... That's the only way to get any use out of it. If it's stolen or lost, they won't activate it... If you don't activate it, then you don't activate it... Either way, you have the same result, an unactivated phone... If they activate it, do whatever. Spraypaint the pink or get a manicure and pedicure to match it. Manntis 10-08-2007, 02:31 PM ...except Verizon dumped CDMA for LTE-GSM in their 4G networks, so it depends what Verison offers in your region. Richter12x2 10-09-2007, 08:05 AM Or hit up Wirefly where the RAZRs are free with 2 year activation. rodney87 10-09-2007, 09:37 PM Went in today, told them I found it in the parking lot outside and wanted to activate it. They did it for free, no muss no fuss (no questions asked) and the guy scanned the numbers 2-3 times without a hitch. And when I bought a charger for it they listed it at 29.99 and I only got charged 22.99 :bigthumb: Now to figure out the best way to paint the thing..... Manntis 10-10-2007, 04:09 AM wow - there's a store that hates their dealer's license *lol* Richter12x2 10-10-2007, 09:30 AM Now to figure out the best way to paint the thing..... Search the net or your local mall kiosk - they make replacement covers for the thing that'll change the color. Just pop off the battery, take out a couple of screws, put on the new plates and you're all good for $20 or so. I changed my wife's SLVR from black to blue. |
