Anyway. I decided to go to Darlington tonite with a different set of rear tires to see if I could drop my times/60' any.
I threw on a set of Michelin Energy MXV4s that were mounted on my steelies when I got the car. They are H rated, so I thought they would be a little softer than the "Douglas" (!!?) S rated tires that I ran with the other night at the Rock. Not quite. At 32 psi on the rears, I spun all the way down the track to a blistering 17.84@84.14mph.
And this at only .6 bar or 8.7psi. I was one of the first people on the track, and it was slippery. I let some of the bigger cars run and warm up the track a little before I went back.
All in all, I got 12 runs all nite. I took my time adjusting tire pressure and fuel pressure. Logging the max temps of the EGT for each run, the max boost, and thetype of launch so I can study it later. All night I was running mid 14s and high 90s for mph.. No matter what I did, I still spun. Even though I'm running street tires, I opted to put on the smoke show (for the crowd) and going into 2nd during the burnout is the only way that I could get both rear tires on my "LSD-less" rear diff to put down the power. The burnouts actually did work to create some more grip.
By the end of the night, I had dropped the pressure in the rear tires to 24psi. For shits and giggles I turned on the AVCr and bumped the boost up to .80bar (11.60psi). To compensate, I cranked the fuel pressure at the rail up to 60psi.
For my run, I drew up against a EG body Civic hatch. I dont know what was in it, but he was running drag radials on the front, and it was trailered in. There were hood pins on it, and I never did see what was under it. Turns out that he jumped me off the line and redlighted by about .2 seconds. He got away first, but I nearly chased him down by the end of the track.
I'm pretty sure that he was spraying a Bseries under the hood of that Civic...all motor Hondas dont shoot flame out the exhaust pipe.
I went nuts when I picked up my time slip. 13.87@101.49mph!
I fried my clutch, but I was expecting that and it's well worth it. The clutch wasnt healthy to begin with. The car is still driveable, just not "race-able"
The run plays out like this...
R/T-.544
60'- 2.156
330'-5.961
1.8-9.047
MPH-80.77
1000'-11.661
1/4-13.873
MPH-101.49
No more runs till I have a clutch, but I'll be happy with this for a minute.
Stay Tuned.
