I just wanted to get you guys input on this. Nothin special, something 95 or newer. I've come up with tons of cars, but we kinda need to narrow this down as she is gonna get something next week.

You're gonna have trouble spending just $2500 on someting 95 or newer. I'd look at an 80s Civic in the best condition you can find it in. Those things were pretty good.

If the $2500 is a DP, look at the Maxima. Sweet ride.

$2,500 for a 95 or newer leaves you with the bottom rung of Detroit and possibly Kia/Hundai.

Edit- here are some general searches on autotrader for $2500 under

Taurus is an option. I drove a company Taurus when I was working for the City of Columbia Planning & Zoning Dept, and it was great for a daily driver.

We were looking at a couple of Auroras, but high ownership costs may be a factor.

My gut reaction would be to get a car that was popular and made in abundance with a decent track record. That way parts are cheap and found at junkyards a dime a dozen...

Get a 89-92 CRX. They're still great cars, reliable as hell and cheap to fix.

94-97 accord. might have to drive to find one at that price but you can pick one up for 2500. will likely have high mileage but its a honda. replacement engines / trannys arent too expensive or rare.

I'd look into a Miata. You wont' be able to get a 95 for that price, but you should be able to pick up a great conditioned 91-94 in that range with about 110k on it.. I garauntee it will last a lot longer and have fewer problems than any domestic you look at for that price. hell, my 91 with 140k on the clock has had a HELLUVA lot less than my friend's cavaliers, tauruses, and ESPECIALLY Fuckuses..

I third that. I was even considering one for a daily driver.

I'd also have to say fc.

If she buys an fc, it'll likely become my car, and I don't have time for a project right now.

Miata is a good suggestion though.

Those are very "ugly".

Although a early to mid 90's 850 is an option. Not sure about the ownership costs though.

Do you like DSMs (I don't)

If you do, I just got a '95 Talon TSI in on trade monday.

5spd very clean, new motor in '01, timing belt done, new turbo.

130K on chassis.

If you're willing to come this far, I'd sell it for $2500.

I just picked up a 97 civic EX today with 112k miles, 5 speed, 4 door, 1F cap, 5 channel alpine amp, 4 components, 2 fosgate 12s, a CAI, new clutch, and ricer gauges-

It needs front rotors, has one tire cut to the belt, and the tranny is hissing (bad bearing on the input shaft)

Makes a funny compliment to my RX7/LS1

$2450

I would stick with trying to find a Honda...cant beat the reliability..just look for a good deal on a civic or a accord...they are out there

Found her a Black '97 Taurus for 1,900 bux. For her, it'll be fine. V6, power locks/windows/mirrors, etc., new tranny, and it'll make a great highway cruiser for our trips.

Picking it up next wednesday.

Eh. Should have gotten the Miata. Absolutely bulletproof engine/tranny, cheap, and all the girls that drive them are completely in love with em. I think it's partly the serious "cute" factor and partly the "hair in the wind, put a smile on your face" factor.

On the other hand, the Taurus will probably be cheaper on gas. If she had gotten a Miata, she'd have burned a lot of gas just driving around because it's fun =)

92-94 Civic Si Coupe. The 2 doors w/ trunk hold up far better in an accident than the 4 doors or HBs, but still get excellent gas mileage and look 1/2 decent with their BMWannabe profile.

92-93 4 cyl MX-3. Total chick car and gets great gas milage. And it is a Mazda engine so it lasts forever.
